On SDL MAME Wii, Haunted Castle plays at full speed, and the loading time is minimal.
However, I have not tried 'heavy' ROMs.  I don't think it will play CPS3 games like Third Strike or Super SF II.

N64 Emulation, a long while ago, was pretty crappy, and you'd only get 15-20 frames per second...
HOWEVER, the latest version of Wii64 is just about as fast as it should be.  It's much much much better than it used to be.  My nephew and I have been enjoying Mario Kart 64 at nearly-full speed (the original N64 one was used as a test, and even that version, on original hardware, did not run at full frames per second.  By comparison, I will be trying out F-ZeroX because that one did run at nearly 60fps on original hardware).

So it's pretty great now! :D

So... this is basically a "ps3 is stupid" thread.

Despite all the problems the ps3 may have, it still doesn't compare to the 360's RROD, that 95% of owners have experienced. Microsoft doesn't have a clean track record either. Nyah!
I guess the point the thread starter wanted to make was this: Why buy a ps3 at 3 times the price of the other two consoles while it only has slightly better graphics and a bigger HDD? (not that I care)
Sure the PS3 was overpriced, true. Reason number one I didn't buy it, that and the fact that only very few PS3 exclusives were games that I wanted to play so I could just borrow a friends console for that.

Not sure if these were still xbox360 only exclusives but amongst them I liked:
Kingdom under fire: Circle of Doom (it's predecessors kicked even more ass but that aside)
DOA
Dead Rising
Fable II
Operation darkness

But who cares? all three consoles can be used for a variety of purposes: PS3 = Blu-Ray player
xbox360 can still be modded but not the the extent the old xbox was, wii has come in the place for that as Jorge has shown. And let's be honest, who doesn't want a single console he or she can play a thousand games on without lifting a finger? Sure as hell I do, reason why my most used consoles to this day are xbox (classic you heard me right) and wii having recently purchased it I'm lovin it more than I have the PS3 and 360 thus far.

What am I missingz? :( I tried a number of ROMs with Wii64 and they all run shatty, no matter how many times I fiddle with the video and CPU core options.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the speed of my SD card? Data transfers on it rather slowly. Could also be the ROMs? I'm using US ones, with the little bracketed exclamation mark [!] which I thought were the most stable ROMs, but maybe I'm wrong.

Super Waffle, your thread has backfired. Nyah!

I was thinking on hacking my Wii but I never went through with it. Last I recall I needed a copy of Twilight Princess. Dunno if there's a new method now. Playing every CV except the ps2 ones on 1 console sounds awesome.

Woah, another Operation Darkness fan! Awesome! I also loved Circle of Doom, but I was never a fan of the series.

At first, the PS3 sounded pretty awesome. But it was so costly.
Then it got a bit less in money but it's not as awesome... they went back on everything they were going on about. PS2 backward compatibility was what really made me ignore the console for the most part. I have lots fo PS2 games that I like. And back then the PS3 had minuscule number of games that I was interested in. Though more games are popping up... like the Last Guardian.

@Kale

Yeah I would probably enjoy my PS3 if it had PS2 backwards compatibility... but then again, my PS2 is right there, so that's no problem for me.
As for the 'bigger hard drive', I'm savvy enough that I can swap out hard-drives on my PS3 (you just buy a new laptop-style hard drive and swap it if you need new space).  So I purposefully chose to buy the lowest HDD PSP-Slim, so that I can just cheaply replace the drive when I need to. ;)

@Freak

Which version of the emulator do you have?  They have a new version that came out only last month.  I use the Homebrew Browser to update all of my emulators, whenever I have a chance.  I also love how some emulators self-update when you run 'em (FCE UltraGX, Snes9xGX, and VBA-GX do this).

@Crisis

Wow, the Twilight Hack.  No, people don't use that anymore.  There are much simpler, much easier methods, now that you can load games off the SD Card Slot.  You download a special trick 'game' and put it in your SD Card, then when you go to your Wii Menu, choose to load that 'game' and it'll exploit the system and install the Homebrew Channel (and if your system isn't updated, it might even give you more functions and a secondary boot process so you can 'backup' your entire system).  Once you have the Homebrew Channel, plenty of emulators and some decent homebrew games become available through the "Homebrew Browser" app.

I love playing Quake on the Wii with Wii controls! xD

I thought the old one uses 3.5 hdds. Does the new slim use 2.5s? But someone I know said it's the same... maybe it was in a different context.

Quake on Wiiz iz funz. But sucks that it lacks the music. Unless there's a newer version of it that does play the tunes (like MP3s or something, or maybe enables the music to be played from the PC game disc)?

I downloaded the most recent Wii64 available on WiiBrew just last night—so, Beta 1.1 "Honey".

I used the Smash Stack method last night to install HBC and BootMii. I had had all this stuff on my Wii long ago, but wiped it clean with a Nintendo system update because I noticed some weird sound issues going on ever since a friend of mine did some overly complex hacking to my Wii. This was after the Twilight Hack was obsolete and before saner methods appeared, and I can't remember why my HBC and stuff disappeared after installing it that way, lol. Probably having to do with another system update to play a game or use the store. But yeah, Smash Stack was super easy, if ya own Brawl.

Only thing is I kinda hate having to go to the BootMii menu when firing up the system. Shoulda done BootMini? Apparently you access it through the HBC. But I backed up my Wii, in case something horrible ever happens.

I don't need to go through BootMii to boot the system, and you shouldn't either.

For me, you'd only go through Bootmii if you hold RESET as you turn the Wii on.
You can probably configure your Bootmii to not do that.  Mine doesn't do that at all.

Well, I installed boot2 (which installs to and changes the NAND memory, I believe) instead of installing it as an IOS, if that has anything to do with it. I know the older versions of BootMii had an option to not have the Wii go to it on startup. Couldn't really find the option on this newer version; it has a different look and everything. But, it is kind of nice for it to begin with BootMii in case my Wii bricks, 'cos I can hopefully restore it with my backup.

I go into the regular System Menu, and go into the HBC off... the Channel.
I only go into BootMii if I wanna backup my system.

And my version of BootMii looks pretty slick.  It's got these four nice-looking Chrome buttons in it.  I don't know the version though.  I'll take a look in a little bit, haha.

Edit:
This is my BootMii info:

BootMii v1.3
Stub v1.3
Mini v0.4

SysMenu : 4.1U boot1a boot2v4

Also Freak, the newer emulators do better with playing/saving/loading if your SDCard is SDHC.  If it's an older card, perhaps it's slow and as such, those N64 games may run slow as a direct result of that.

Yeah, it's an older, standard SD card. Well, actually, it's a microSD through an adapter, so that may be slowing it down some more.

Looks like I'll have to just get an SDHC card—a really sizable one so as to cram it with all sorts of gaming goodies. Any recommended brand(s)?

Think I might go with a Kingston 16GB. $35 at Newegg. I'll likely never need that much space for Wii gaming, but ya never know—I once loaded my 2GB card with a bunch of GBA ROMs, and I filled it up in no time, with plenty of games left to transfer.

I have a Kingston 8GB SDHC.  It's only got 2.3GB free by now though. >_>

You should be fiiiiiine with 16GB.  It might actually be too much, hahaha.  Although if you're putting PSX ISOs and Saturn ISOs, it might actually fill up.
