We've seen other stuff like that though, just not as mind-raping.

Like the Nightmare scene with Succubus.
Or the Chaotic Realm in AoS.
Or the Puzzle Room in DoS.
The upside-down and dimension-shifting rooms of Bloodlines.
Rotating Chamber and Spinning Corridor of CV4.
The break-away tower and self-building tower of CV3.
The mansion under the lake in CV2.

Castlevania has its share of WTF moments.

Your prejudice towards IGA, while highly uncalled for, is quite amusing ;D

Do you know why? Because IGA doesn't want to ruin the orgasn face of his gay goth boys, he doesn't want them to be scared or even show an insignificant part of being humans, no, his guys are always badasses that nothing in this world can scare, they are almighty.
Oh, wait, I forgot, the Belmonts CAN be scared, they are ALWAYS afraid of what could happen if the gay badass fails.
And that's fair, because they are SO weak in IGA games, so, they can't kill even a beettle.
Long life to IGA!!! (IN the chaotic realm, please)

Ummmmm what the hell was that!?!?
Kindly curb whatever drugs you are taking and take that attitude down a few pegs.  Holy crap.

I'd have to agree with Ahasverus on the his IGA rant. To me as well it seems as if IGA is deliberately making the Belmonts weak as hell so that it could give him the excuse to remove them from the series entirly. THAT BETTER NOT HAPPEN IGA!  >:(

*Ahem* Anyhoo... I think that castlevania could use more surprises like the one from haunted castle. It was definitely a surprise for me.  :)

Personally, these mindfrakking scenes tend to be my favourite parts of CV, as it really adds to the "otherworldly" feel of the games, and let's be honest: if Castlevania can move throughout the world by "disappearing" and "reappearing", doesn't it make sense that it can bend space-time to its will? Dracula is on a mission contra God Himself, so he's got to have some obscenely high-level abilities if he expects to win, right?

Also, concerning the removal of the Belmont clan, one could say that, in making Julius the last Belmont left, he may well have already succeeded, as unless he's got something "on ice", he may be nearing impotency and thus likely to be the last scion, methinks...

That stage would've been even more warped if the character remained uniformed with the stage itself like the baddies did.  :o

I remember being very confused at that part. Why can't this game be put on XBLA or something? I want to have it on some console.

The most WTF moment is in HoD when suddenly you're racing against a giant metal ball in a very Tom & Jerry-like environment.

Another weird moment is in Castlevania Legends when twice in the game you're plunged into a zombie pit for no good reason.
