Did the Belmonts Disappear Because of Vanity?

I was just reviewing the dialog in Symphony of the Night.  Here's the DXC version of events:

Alucard: Richter. Why would a Belmont ever plan to resurrect Count Dracula?
Richter: Dracula rises once a century. One chance for each Belmont to shine, and then we're finished, forgotten. If I bring him back now, the battle can last for eternity!

While he was lord of Dracula's Castle, could Richter have done something that permanently removed the condition that Dracula rises "once a century" and allowed him to rise more often?  So that he and his descendants could battle him for eternity and not be forgotten??  Could that be the reason why the Belmonts were forbidden to take part in any of the subsequent battles against Dracula, until they were allowed to face him over 200 years later in 1999?

Doubt it.  I personally think that it was because he used the Vampire Killer for evil.  While we don't know that for sure.  I do remember Shaft saying that he made Richter "lord of the castle" because he was the strongest of the hunters and that none could defeat him.  With that in mind, it's possible that he killed other vampire hunters before Alucard's arrival.

I think all theories about the disappearance of the Belmont based on what happend in Symphony should be excluded because of the radio drama.

Reinhart's next topic: Were the Belmonts sleeping at the time Dracula's Castle was resurrected in OoE?

lol j/k :P, but yeah, no i don't think that theory is what happened. From what we can gather:

Wind says that the Belmonts can't touch the whip until 1999, because that is the date Nostradamus predicted Dracula will be at his strongest. After centuries of battling him, I'd like to think that after hearing the prophecy, the Belmonts decided to take a long break to hone their skills for when the final battle comes, which is why they gave Vampire Killer to the Morris family. I don't think it's cuz they're stuck in a vortex or anything, they're just sitting back & letting their offshoot families take care of business until Nostradamus' prophecy comes into fruition.

All we know is that they all got amnesia and live in Wygol Village.

Not all of 'em had amnesia, Miss Bodacious. I recall one of 'em reminiscing about their former vampire hunting days, I think it was the grandma.

Yeah, that is pretty weird. I'm guessing they only forgot about their lineage, though they do remember that they are descendants of vampire hunters as Nikolai and Daniela seem to recall that.

i never thought of any of the Wygol villagers as true Belmonts (as in they would have the Belmont last name), just descendants of them.  but i suppose some of them might have been.

and yeah, based on the audio drama, Richter didn't put down his whip after what he had done in sotn.  so i was thinkin perhaps what they really weren't allowed to do was fight Dracula again until he was at his maximum power.  and the best way to avoid the temptation to do that would be to not touch the whip until then as prescribed by the prophesy. perhaps after Alucard sealed Dracula, no one thought Dracula would be back anytime soon, so Richter kept the whip and Magnus decided it wad time to look towards Alucard as the new lord of darkness.  but yeah of course, just speculation.

Who knows? Maybe after the events of SotN, the church went after the Belmonts, making them scatter and/or give up the Vampire Killer.

Does anybody know where I can find an English translation of the radio drama?

Interesting question. The church therory may be the most realistic, as they could have learned Richter's possession by Shaft and think Belmonts aren't a sure option anymore. That may be at that time that Alucard created the Alucard Spear to go over that problem.
