The Legend of Hell House should be seen by everyone who's into classy filmmaking and creeping suspense. One of the best.

From what I hear this is a really good adaptation of a game to movie I have not seen the game but the movie was good I would say that it would be in need of a remake or something

The game is adapted from the movie. Movie's pretty slick; I played a bit of a translated ROM of the game and it was pretty cool, but I didn't play it long. I should try it out again.

I'm all for this thread. Can anyone of you guys list some Japanese horror films that are really spooky? I don't want that average American teenage slaughterfest, I want movies which are genuinely scary in a "what the hell is happening" kind of way.
Recommendations?

Never seen the movie, but the game was excellent. Never would've thought thought a Famicom game could give a person such a feeling of dread while playing it. Good times.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

Trick r Treat is really good. Very over looked halloween movie. I say halloween cause its more of a holiday movie than a scary movie. Make sure its the movie with just 'r' not 'or'... completely different

How about "Return to House on Haunted Hill".  That movie is freaky.  It takes place in an old insane asylum full of the ghosts of its deceased and disturbed former patients.  Plus, there's also the ghost of the demon worshipping doctor who is in control of the building and his dead and insane nurses.  In essence, the doctor and his underlings torture and kill the idiots who decide to explore the old asylum.  One guy actually gets the top of his skull removed while fully conscious at which point on of the dead nurses yank out his brain killing him.

My advice don't watch it at night.  And, if you are already scared of hospitals and distrustful of doctors and nurses, don't watch this movie (it will only make this feelings worse).

If you ever played the online MMORPG  Trickster (by Ntreev), you must watch "Bunshinsaba". It's a Korean movie. Trickster has numerous references to it. I wrote up a thread on the Trickster forums about the tie-ins.

Uzumaki is a fun, cult film. Not scary, just creepy weird. Japanese film. Written by Junji Ito or whatever his name is. The manga is weirder, so they toned it down for the movie.

Not movies, but I liked the Ayakashi/Mononoke anime series. Mononoke got corny at times, but it's a good ghost stories series. The creepiness/scariness isn't from the ghosts but from the people haunted by the ghosts. And if you like cats, you'll hate both segments titled "Bakeneko" (first is about a sadistic lord in the Tokugawa era, the other is about a cat accidentally killed by a trolley in the Showa period... well there's more to both of them than the cats, but that's why they're not fun episodes for cat lovers).

...
I can't say much about horror movies cus i'm not a fan of horror... so i'll stop here
