Topic: Opening Emulators like Gens and Kega Fusion fucks up my screen

Ok so whenever my resolution changes due to say, opening an emulator, (like Gens) this happens to my screen.



why?

I also cannot close anything, and shit in general is just all fucked up on the screen. It forces me to hard reset my computer when it happens.

This happens with gens and Kega Fusion.

Cany any of you help a guy out?

That's a bit...bizarre. I have a couple of guesses, but someone with more knowledge might come in and correct me if I'm wrong.

One guess would be that maybe you either have too many things running, which is slowing down your computer and causing things to freeze up. Or, if you have a slow processor or a small amount of RAM this could be causing it to slow and freeze up too.

My other guess is that maybe your graphics/video driver is not installed correctly. Any changes to the screen resolution like that can mess it up if it isn't installed correctly.

What are the Video settings for Kega? And what version are you using? I'm using Fusion 3.64 currently with no issues.

I should have mentioned this before but- this is a recent issue. I have opened the SAME versions of Gens and Kega for the longest time now, with no issue. Only recently, (around start of october maybe?) when I tried to open Gens, this happened.

Never had that issue with using Gens. That is bizarre. I'm currently using Gens+00339. The only time it is picky is when I'm reconfiguring my controller options. That's it. Could this problem be attributed to your current windows program maybe? Do you have some hardware issues that conflict with the Gens program? Are you perhaps missing any drivers?

Absolutely no clue at all. I cant recall doing anything that would cause that.

that must suck, I kinda Shy away from Gens (its cool, cause my PSP has top notch Genesis/Sega CD emulators) because of the weird screen jumping, its bizarre and I dunno why anyone has even bothered to fix that issue...

If it's Vista you're running (could also happen in Windows 7 as well), the emulator causes the PC to have to auto change resolutions, but it usually happens quick and takes about a minute or so to let the change happen and for you to be able to do anything. But I don't have issues with anything freezing with Kega Fusion, not even with 6 Firefox tabs open and Chrome open as well. Try a fresher or older version of Kega Fusion and see if the same thing happens, if so, you could have deeper issues than just some emulator causing freezing issues (I'm not tech savvy to be able to say what the issues may be, someone else could come along and help out).

Thats the issue, during the auto resolution change, that happens to my screen. Im able to change the resolution manually with no issue, so im wonering why the gens/Kega auto change fucks it all up.

Newer Windows are beyond me. I still use XP. And even with Paintshop Pro, Animation Shop Pro, reVamp, and GameMaker running, my computer handled running Kega Fusion in full screen then going back and forth between programs just fine (oh I'm on a laptop with 512k RAM).

I've played Gens on windows vista and recently windows 7 ultimate. No problems what-so-ever. So there must be something else that's clashing with the program. If Kega and Gens aren't working with your machine then it would be less of a headache to look into other Genesis emulators.

There's not much else out there. Gens and Fusion are about the best you can get now. And most emulators now are based on the old greats. Genecyst was the foundation of many Sega emus (including Fusion). Nesticle spawned its clones. FCEU spawned FCEUX. SNES9X had its clones. MAME spawned numerous clones. Rage spawned NeoRage and that in turn spawned NeoRageX. So he's kinda screwed.

Post the video settings for your computer, for your video driver software, for Gens, for Kega, and the results of DirectX Diagnostics. It's also possible Gens and Fusion have a shared DLL that got corrupted. Either way, you did something at some point to your computer and it's fucked now.
