Your first time ever beating Castlevania (NES/FAMICOM)?

Just curious as to when others beat the first Castlevania. How they felt about it and such.

I was in a waiting room at a dentist's office, and there was a Konami arcade machine in there, so I went over to see what it was, and it had like 30 different games on there, Castlevania being one of them. So I started playing it. Around Stage 3, there was a line of people behind me, and someone asked, "Hey, can you hurry up? Can't you see others want to use it?"

And I was like, "Hold on, man. I'm in the middle of a stage."

So someone else said, "Don't worry. We'll just wait until he dies or something."

And like that I was motivated. I kept on playing and I beat the game, having only died once (against Dracula, which made me mad cuz I lost all my hearts). But like a boss, I finished that game and right afterward, I was called in by the dentist.

Probably the proudest moment of my life. No joke.

Nothing that exciting for me.  I first played CV around 1987, when I was 6.  I couldn't get past the crushers on the second stage, but I loved the game.  I didn't play it again until I bought my first NES around 1997.  Castlevania was one of the first games I bought for it, and I beat it in a few days.  It wasn't nearly as difficult as it had been for me as a kid, but I wouldn't have been able to beat it without the infinite continues.

Seriously? That is one badass (and strange) dentist.

Nothing so glorious for me. I beat it when I revisited it much later in the age of emulation, looking back to the classic games once more.

I never beat the game until adulthood, either. I don't think I ever got past the mummies as a kid, then Igor and Frankenstein's Monster were where I got stuck as a teenager. I think I first beat the game when I was about 23 or 24, and I'm sure it took me at least 90 minutes.

After all these years, I still spend just as much time stuck at Dracula as I do playing the rest of the game.  >:(
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

First time I played/beat CV was on the gba. I recall it being hard as hell. I also recall beating it at my grandmothers house. However, now it's super easy.

As a kid, I never had the original Castlevania for the NES. I did have Dracula's Curse, but never the first game. I didn't get the first game until about 3 years ago(I had played around with it on emulation before then, but never really beat it cause I wanted the actual game on the NES). The first time I beat it 3 years ago, I remember how I wanted to bash my TV in with the controller because of Death. It took me forever to beat Frankenstein monster too, but Death was far worse of a problem for me. I had quite a bit of trouble with Dracula too, but when I finally beat it...I felt like a kid again. I was so excited!

I wish I could have experienced this game in my childhood, but at least I got to experience Dracula's Curse back then.  :P

Never got the chance to play the original Castlevania until around 97 or 98 when my brother bought a used cart. My family didn't exactly have internet at that time and when we did get it I was unaware about game emulation for at least another two years or so. Nothing nearly as epic as your trip to the dentist though.

First time I played/beat CV was on the gba.

Same I do not recall my brother having the first two for the nes only III but I enjoyed it nowadays I play it on the nes instead of my gba yet at one point I was going to do a let's play at one point

castlevania gba test

but that damn dazzle did not work in the end so any hopes I had of becoming a let's player/ reviewer anything just burned and went to the deepest parts of hell and I believe I could have done one hell of a job too  :'(

Made it to level 99.

This.

This is something I have only thought about doing. I can't even handle Stage 3 the second time you get there... D:

Sounds like the coolest dentist...ever...

Pretty much. There was a Sega machine, too, but I much preferred the Konami machine. If it wasn't Castlevania I was playing, it was Contra.

(There was also a Golden Tee machine, but my guess is you gotta be really bored with the other two machines to go to that...)

To be honest, I really wish I could get to play through Castlevania on an actual NES with the flat little NES controller... I'd kill to have one of those.

That dentist story is fantastic Solais!

I first beat the original Castlevania a few years ago in my college dorm on the Wii virtual console. I was at the clocktower stage, and had been hanging out with some friends, one girl I knew told me she had played the first Castlevania and had no trouble getting through the game. I have a bit of a competitive personality, so that night I refused to sleep until I beat that damn game. So I finally beat that level, and made it to Dracula, who I learned how to properly fight after several attempts, and BAM! I won! I'd had that game in multiple formats, but that was the first time I'd actually won.

After that I made it my goal to beat every version of the game that I had, and so I did. I played through the GBA port, replayed the virtual console release, then when I got home for a weekend, I hooked up the NES, and beat that one too.  8)
