Are you a fan of Slavoj Zizek?
Apparently, Zizek, an eccentric Slovenian philosopher is very popular in the UK. Which I assumed was quite odd considering that the guy's philosophy is somewhat over many people's heads, and the fact that he identifies as a Marxist (though he's very different in his philosophy and approaches than traditional Marxists, thus I believe he's better described as a Neo-Marxist)
Zizek is a very unusual man. Being described by some as "the Borat of philosophy", he's very cynical and somewhat misanthropic. He gained mass popularity by arguing that most people are boring idiots, philosophically analyzing movies, arguing for the benefits of dirty jokes, harshly attacking the Western left and its "political correctness", and criticizing mass immigration (a Marxist criticizing immigration seems impossible to some on the modern left).
He is definitely an interesting thinker to listen to. His faith in Marxism seems to stem from his contempt for capitalism and consumerism. At the same time he's not a Utopian, harshly dismissing totalitarianism; he thinks a revolution is eventually inevitable, but he doesn't appear to have an idea how.
If you're interested in philosophy, some things he says are enlightening. If not, well, you can still be amused by his approaches to life.
