I bought a new DSi XL today after trading in my lite + old GBA games.  Man this thing is freaking awesome!  The Castevania games are so much more enjoyable on the bigger screens.  The difference in screen size really makes you appreciate all the little details that are hard to notice on the DS Lite.  For anyone who is wondering the XL is totally worth it and I could never play CV on anything else.  Just make sure you check the XL for screen defects if you buy one.  I had to exchange my first one because the touch screen had some scratches.  Other people have reported dimmed screens and dead pixels, but I didn't experience any of that.

I'm sorry.  This loss must be unbearable for you.

Doesn't the XL create more pixel-prominent graphics? Do the images maintain fidelity blown up? Also, do you have 'Contra 4' for DS? I wonder how that looks on XL.

The larger pixels don't really ruin the quality and the larger screen size is a big improvement.  I don't have Contra so I can't comment on it.  The only issue i've noticed with the XL is a small amount of light around some of the edges of the touch screen.  You can only see the light when the screen is completely black and thus is hardly noticeable.

Contra 4 on the XL looks astounding. You can actually see all the detail that went into all the backgrounds and such. I was blown away by the little bushes on the jungle level.

My XL has a few screen problems, but I still dig it a lot. I think I'm still covered by Nintendo's warranty, so maybe I ought to get it replaced. The problems don't really bother me, though.
Oh yeah, and also:

I want one :(

I am actually keeping a few DS games sealed until I have a new DS, cause my old DSphat doesn't cut it anymore for me. As soon as I get my DSi XL I'm gonna rip open my Suikoden Tierkreis, Dragon Quest V and Final Fantasy IV. Not necessarily in that order. And I'm definitely gonna play through Contra 4 and the Castlevania games again. I just wish there were more colors to choose from. Yes, I'm weird like that.  ;D

Nothing can ruin Portrait of ruin more than it is already ruined! LOL

Looking back at PoR, there are stuff in it that are really good. Like the clock tower, which beats the hell out of OoE's clock tower - layout wise. Most of the level design actually isn't as bad as I remember it, especially not compared to OoE (which is a better game overall, but there are some seriously really lazy things going on with the level design). And the soundtrack is top notch. Also, the Brauner battle is really cool. I'm seeing PoR in a different light these days. But that's me.

I hate most of PoR, but there was always one thing I liked. Lvling up your subweapons. I just disagreed with how it worked. It shuold've been a universal lvl up system imo. You can probably beat the game 20 times before lvling up all of the subweapons if you don't seek out to do so.
