Poisoning, Intoxication, Drug Influence etc. - Substances can change the way a person behaves. Picture a chemical that can actually cause humans to act and do things they wouldn't normally do. This could cause a sort of epidemic if chemical warfare happened.

Virus, Infection, etc. - The method you most likely hear about. Though viruses like Rabies if airborne could cause widespread madness in human beings. Another thing which would cause you to do things you wouldn't normally do. The odd thing about Rabies is also that it might be a cure for cancer. That really brings the movie I am Legend to reality.

Psychological Imbalance/Neurological Disorders/Brain Damage - If a genetic defect is severe enough it could cause behavior which is not typical of acceptable human behavior. Though with something like this to a degree, humans can still learn and be trained to act in a sort of acceptable way. Enough to manage to a degree not to resort to cannibalism.

Experiments - Zombie Cells are being created in many places here in the US. If someone is introduced to some types of cells and it takes a turn for the worst, you never know what could happen. We could ultimately cause our own end by just being curious.

Gives you something to think about doesn't it? Science Fiction in a way isn't so far from the truth.

"Science fiction is a precursor to science fact" -Arthur C. Clarke.

This is so true and it's historically relevant. There was a case in Vancouver BC, where some one inhaled a a specific kind of bath salts when they were burned ( I'm not sure exactly how it went about). This caused him to lose all control, attack whomever was nearby and literally chew off (or eat) their face. I'm glad I wasn't there as that would literally turn my world upside down while doing a 180 turnabout.

I've heard about that too, but I think that the "chew off" part was because this person had some mental illness instead of being because of this bath salt, since it doesnt happened with another people.

Actually it did. There was another case before the one I just mentioned with the same method of inducement and result. It wasn't isolated unfortunately. But it seems to have cooled off now, probably because the type of bath salts that were used have since been recalled and ceased production.

It prob could be and that's a scary thought. Someone inhaling that stuff after they do chemical warfare.

And don't forget the parasites that control your brain! Well, probably not control it, but they can make you kill yourself.

I think "influence" is the word you were aiming for. Parasites can influence a host's actions & behaviors through chemical excrement. And since the human body is largely governed by chemicals you wouldn't know what's going on until your doctor tells you, you have such & such in your body and it's making you do such & such.

Some dangerous drugs and chemicals could cause severe hallucinations. It's more than an "acid trip". You can see real fucked up shit.
I heard this story, I don't know whether its true or not, but it could be. Some guy was under the influence and suddenly imagined that he has a third arm. Instead of controlling himself and remembering its a hallucination, he was so bothered by the sight that he rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and started cutting his arm off.

I remember this one time when I had quite a bad illness and my temperature rose to 107-108 degrees, maybe more, I don't know.  Anyway, when your body temperature is so high you start hallucinating. I was just a kid and I was scared as hell. It's like a dream state while you're awake. I know some people search for that sensation. Me? It just creeps me out.
