Navigation problems (a link between worlds)

So just before Christmas I purchased a link between worlds seeing as Zelda is my all time favorite game series (castlevania being my 3rd behind the famous mustached plumber. ;D) and after having got the master sword and beating the theive's hideout, I decided to try and tackle the desert palace only to be STUMPED completely and unable to find my way there until looking up a walkthrough. Now by this time I felt like a HUGE noob but it seems like with all 2D Zelda games I have to look up a walkthrough to know where to go next. :/ ashamed in myself I deleted my file and haven't played since so my question is, what should I do? I know I'm obviously too impatient but man, I just want to be able to play some Zelda without having to look up a walkthrough every 10 minutes. Suggestions?

It's okay dude. I also bought me (along with the game) the official AlbW player's guide. The Desert area stumped me too so I had to use the maps available in order to know where the hell to go. My primary concern was whether or not I needed them for the dungeons. Turns out I don't since they are relatively short. Even if you have to check out a walkthrough give the game another shot. After you finish it then you can decide if you liked it or hated it. It was okay by me, however the reuse of the dark world (which was destroyed in AlttP cause it was of Ganon's creation) should not have been in there.

Yeah, I mean the game itself is a lot more different than other Zelda's but I REALLY enjoyed what I played. Was super good. The thing I liked a lot was the pins you could put in the map so everytime I found access to an area in the dark world that led to a dungeon I would mark it with a pin since my memorization is terrible with this kinda stuff.
