Yes, there was a game called Vampire Killer released two years before Vampire Killer. It was released for the Sinclair Spectrum, which nobody here has ever played on.

Going by the box art it featured Benjamin Franklin punching a weirdly bulky skeletor. Also Dracula looks a lot like the manual art from our beloved Vampire Killer: http://www.castlevaniadungeon.net/Images/Scans/VK/akdramsx_09.jpg

Going by this, it was a not-horribly-fun-looking sidescroller (feat. elevators.)
