Any Gauntlet fans on here who have or are planning to buy the new game later this month?  I've got it, and am pretty stoked about playing it! X-D

I've only ever played Gauntlet II on the NES and that was years ago. Never was good at it. That is of course not really knowing what I was doing, lol!

First I heard about. Last Gauntlet game I was playing was Seven Sorrows with my ex-wife before I got divorced a few years back.

I'd never heard of Seven Sorrows until today!

The new game is only coming out on Steam, and officially releases on the 23rd.  I read/heard somewhere that the developers went back to the original titles on the NES to try and recreate/recapture the fun that those games created.
My cousins and I used to play the first game on the NES all the time!  (Always as the Elf of course...his speed was of utmost importance!  Not that it mattered since we weren't that skilled!)  I don't think we knew there was a "Gauntlet 2" on the NES until we were adults.  Then, when the N64 and GC titles came out, we played those.  Now, with the online feature, there's a chance we'll play through this one!

I liked the N64 and GC titles...and I liked Champions of Norrath.  It kindof reminds me of those titles, so I've already gotten my hopes up.

Seeing the videos, it looks like it does new things while retaining the classic feel of the original Gauntlet games. It's not like they were trying to appeal to a different audience/fanbase by changing the gameplay considerably. Imagine if they made a new Gauntlet game in the style of God of War(where you just play as Thor the Warrior), or model it's gameplay more after Skyrim? That would defeat the purpose, IMO.

Trust me when I say that in terms of a good game you didn't miss much. The back cover advertised over 200 levels... We reached level 260+ and the game did not end. After a while stages and swatches just repeated themselves. :P
Though there is a real ending, there's a 14 minute flat TAS on youtube.

All I remember in detail was the phrase "Yellow Valkyrie shot the food"... Not a phrase you expect to hear as a 6 year old!

I always liked the dumb little "tips" and phrases used in the N64 and GC games.  "I like food!" - "Food is good!" - "Yellow Wizard is NOW it!" -- and all those other silly sayings!

I heard that the new game has options to track things like this and point out or mock players that often shoot food, hoard treasure, avoid enemies/battles, etc.  As much fun as my cousins and I used to have with the old games, I'd think this would make the game more fun for us!  "Green Valkyrie is a greedy treasure hoarder!" or something like that!

WB Games, this looks fantastic! No only if they would make a brand new Smash TV or Ikari Warriors title in that old school feel....

I know!  I can easily think of a handful of games I'd consider handing over to them if they'd give it the same treatment they seem to have given Gauntlet.  Maybe even Castlevania?!! *wink, wink* *nudge, nudge*

And I used to enjoy Champions of Norrath, until my PS2 card quit on me for reasons I don't know.  I'd beaten the game once and gotten to the cloud king (or whatever he was) in the next level of difficulty, when all of a sudden my memory card was "corrupt".  I don't even know how/why that'd happen, but it won't load anymore, meaning I lost my game files.  I haven't brought myself to go back to it yet...mostly because I don't want to try using that card again.  I'd rather have a "new" one that maybe won't be stupid.

yeah that sux! Theres a lot to lose in those games. Champions was pretty glitchy too. Return to Arms improved on it in every way possible. Ive prolly put 200 hours or more in Return to Arms. I think I still have my memory card with all my duped stuff on mule chars too lol
