...for inspiring me to try something dangerous. ;)

Having come back to these forums after finally experiencing the LoS titles, I visited the "remakes" thread. There I suggested that CV64:LoD should be remade in the LoS style. Some agreed, but others suggested that perhaps the Souls formula by From Software was more fitting, citing that Dark Souls III and Bloodborne pretty much felt like CV titles anyway.

That made me think. I've known about these titles for quite some time. And I've pretty much avoided them not only for their reputation, but also for the same reasons I've avoided the classicvanias...I suck at action games.

Until a few days ago.

I thought about the Souls games. I read about them. I watched videos...and was all "o_O" about what I saw in BB. And then...I looked Steam straight in the eye and said, "Alright. Here's my money. Please send me Dark Souls: Prepare to Die."

So I'm late for the party, but I at least decided to show up. Thank you very much for the indirect recommendation! :D

I'm knee-deep into Bloodborne myself and it really is what a 3D Castlevania should be. It has the toughness of the "Classicvanias" and branching paths and aesthetics of the "Metroidvanias." Except it's much more than just that: there's Diablo and Diablo II in here* with some Demon's Crest atmosphere and monsters, and the way you discover things in the game reminds me of Quintet's action RPGs on the SNES. It's seriously like my favorite game of the past ten years.

*(This game is more of a Diablo game in every way than Diablo III; the chalice dungeons even have that dungeon crawl feel. Only difference being FromSoftware has changed the playstyle to a 3D space.)

I've got Demon's Souls and all the Dark Souls lined up for me next; I'll dive into DS III first and probably work my way back.
Oh yeah, and also:

Soda as well.

Well I just played the Nioh Demo without reading about the gameplay mechanics and I think I got about halfway through the demo (top of the hill) before having my ass handed to me. People may want to try it if they're looking for challenge.
