As my vote shows, there were good ideas, but the graphics and game play sucked.

Totally disagree, graphis are really good for a standard N64 title and the control is not bad.

I personally LOVE the N64 CastleVanias, they have different styles so i think there's no possible comparision.

I mean, the first CastleVania64 is shorter, more bloody and more... blaspheme(it makes me think on Lovecraft), also the level design does more sense than LoD's ones.

Legacy is darker, less bloody an has a lot of "blue" in his colors, his atmosphere is more depressing, everything is in ruins (just look the execution tower), the game has more traps and platforming (the Clock tower is lovely)

Those two games are more CastleVania-ish than any IGA game could be ever.

Yeah, the N64 ones, though I prefer Legacy of Darkness, are amazing. I think if Iga was to design a new 3D console game off of those, it could be a potential masterpiece. I think the game is too short though. Cornell's story is a good length, but I can finish Carrie and Reinhart's stories in one day. It always leaves me wanting more. That's my only problem with it, but it's still my favorite!

By the way, welcome to the forums!

if there's one thing i don't like about those games, it's the script. some of the lines the characters, especially villains deliver are so ridiculously cheesy and retarded i cringe when they appear on screen.

the quote in gimph's signature is one of them. :o

It kinda gave it that cheesy horror movie feel, though. And I think that's what the team basically set out to do. There's those sorts of influences throughout the whole game:

- brooding, moody soundtrack, with its many uses of the "SHOCK!" strings-slap

- over the top enemy design

- scenarios like the garden maze chase and the mad scientist's explosive brew. The execution and duel towers are totally cheesy as well.

It's pretty damn clear the KCEK team is a big fan of the B-Horror movement, and it's largely what give CV64s their charm.

the 64 ones are pretty good, I just wish they had implemented the camera better, it's hard for me to see what I'm doin' half the time. (though I can fix that now with Legacy but I haven't tried it yet with the dpad thing)

Even with the D-Pad thing, it's hard to tell when and when not to use lock-on for enemies.

I've seemed to notice that you actually have much better accuracy and flexibilty if you just leave "Action" mode on and kinda run toward your enemy as you attack.

Except with Reinhardt, cuz he needs to target. Also Henry.

Who said that? Actrice? She always annoyed me. And Gille de Rais...

Umm... that's Dracula's death threat to Carrie and Reinhardt. Well it first appeared in CV64 and was voiced.

Dispite some stupid lines, the game had a good storyline, and unlike most Castlevanias, some parts were actually very emotional, whether it was sadness, like Rosa's story, as well as Actrise's story of killing her child, or freaky like Carrie/reinhart's encounter with the "villager" in the villa.

it doesn't feel too epic or deep, but it's a decent story all right.

also btw. actrise's actually one of the least annoying villains in the game. she doesn't sound like a fat woman/santa claus when she laughs like dracula does for example (ohohoho etc).

I hate you, Dracula. You're a bad person. First you kill and rape the population; now you won't even let us have our toyz! What's a little airplane gonna do to you?

Are you so paranoid and concerened with the size of your penis? I bet that's the only real "witchcraft" Lisa was ever guilty of: she blabbed about it to her friends. And you saw it as killing two birds with one stone as you now had an excuse to have all the toys you never had as a boy.

Cry me a river, bitch!
