Yeah, it's like a self-fulfilling prophecy some people have.

Have you played SotN? CotM? HoD? AoS? DoS? PoR?
Cause if you had, you'd clearly see how unoriginal this game is, and you can't beat SotN with a clone.

SF2 Championship Edition was a clone of World Warrior, but
it sure as hell was better than World Warrior.

and the formula works!  what would you expect?  going back to linear stage-based CV gameplay?  or something ridiculous like a first person shooter Castlevania?

there's a point where a series shouldn't cross the line
in how it's gameplay/progression is designed.
Like look at how horrible Fighting Force 2 is compared
to Fighting Force.  it's practically changes too much.

another fine example is Super Metroid compared to Metroid Prime.  I don't know about you, but the first person view M games weren't nearly as cool as the 2-D ones.   but this isn't simple 2-D vs. 3-D subjects.  just examples of changing the way a game works is too risky.

SOTN surpassed the past games because those light RPG elements didn't turn it into Dragon Quest.  it was just enough to keep things platforming and give it more exploration and growth.

beyond that basic formula, CV doesn't need to evolve out of the SOTN/Metroid elements, although I wouldn't mind a Castlevania MMORPG or sandbox CV world.

it's people like you that end up ruining series,  like
look at Castlevania Judgment.  there is no way in hell that
this series should have gone in that direction.

next there might be a Castlevania Party game and then
you'll be eating your words about originality, preferring the series stay with the SOTN approach.

and besides SOTN has already been surpassed by games like
PoR, in many ways.

OK, I'll try to respond to some of that.

First of all, I'm not gonna buy the same game over and over and over, which is why I grew tired of all those Street Fighter 2 re-releases really quickly, just like I've grown tired of the Castleroid formula. So yeah, Turbo was technically a better game than World Warrior, but for every new edition that was released, the game lost some of it's appeal.

Also, going back to the linear CV formula is an EXCELLENT idea! That would be fantastic.

And puuh-leaase! Do you honestly think "people like me" have anything to do with ruining/saving this series? Don't you think IGA has a mind of his own and that he's capable of making his own decisions? Castlevania Judgment is an experiment and I can't believe people are taking it so damn seriously. It's not like it will even have a sequel (unless it sells really well which I doubt). Having said that, I would be very surprised if the entire series is "going in that direction", like you claim it is.

And your last comment about PoR is just plain old trolling. No one likes PoR that much. It's not humanly possible.

And once again, I'm not saying OoE will suck. I'm just trying to discuss things. Konami can make castleroids 'til the end of time for all I care, but they need to reinvent themselves with every game so the experience is new each and every time. OoE may or may not be that game. The Monastery level is all I've seen so far, and it looks like a PoR reject. Sorry, but it does. Hopefully, it won't feel like that when I play the game.

And I still don't trust video game reviewers.

Champion Edition was another remake.

The formula works because newer fans have an orgasm over it. Also, going back to the old style would be awesome.

The series is crossing the line by having too many Metroidvanias/Castleroids.

Changing the style worked fine with SotN.

SotN surpassed the games because it was easier, had more freedom, and it was different.

How is it certain fans that ruin the series? That makes no sense. If anything, its all the fans that spawned Judgment due to the need for whip controls with the wii. The series isn't even going in that direction. Its a spin off.

You're exaggerating and using an excuse that people have been constantly using to get out of that argument, and again, the series isn't going in that certain direction.

Um...what?! How was SotN surpassed by PoR? Thats just crazy!

actually, yes, it is humanly possible.

I Think PoR is one of the greatest games ever made, if not THE greatest.

I actually like PoR. Pretty much. And it definitely is superior to SotN in SOME POINTS. I hate it when you guys claim your opinions for the omnipotent opinions that automatically apply to everyone.

Good. Do the world a favor and die.

Besides, plenty of people liked PoR despite the aesthetic hiccups it had. If you hate it, that's great and all, but don't act like your opinion should apply to everyone else.

Really it's a shame that so many people here who claim to be such die hard fans of the series seem to do so much more bitching than praising and almost refuse to give the game a chance based on art style alone. I know most of us hate the anime, myself included, but that doesn't change the fact that DoS and PoR were fun as hell.

I understand the point of this message board is discussion of the series, and I understand that there is always going to be debate due to certain peoples opinions, but come on! Half the people here refuse to acknowledge even the slightest good of the games they so passionately hate! And again, they call them selves die hard fans??

Also, it's these same people who refuse to point out the flaws in game that started the series turn, Symphony of the Night. While it is highly regarded as the greatest game in the series, and in my top three as well, it did have it's flaws. The lack of uncreativity in the upside down castle alone, is enough to shadow what some people claim is uncreative in some of the newer games, such as the second portrait set in PoR.

Oh, and by the way, Serio, the one who hates PoR so much, why did you used to have an icon of Stella for so long? The most annoying character in that entire game? Where is she on your list of nooses?
What a horrible night to have a curse!

You want him to die because of that? How is that doing the world a favor? You took that too seriously.

I remain skeptical about OoE's glyphs.  Why throw away all the melee weapons that gave such variety to SOTN/AoS/DoS/PoR and replace it with a system of dumbass symbols which all have limited use?  I still believe having melee weapons in Ecclesia drain MP is a concept of fake difficulty.  Eventually the game will come down to a system of projectile whoring, because since weapons/subweapons/magic are all combined under one system the subweapons/magic glyphs will likely be preferred over the melee weapon glyphs.  I don't feel like looking at my MP gauge every 2 seconds just to make sure I can attack.  Everything else with the game looks good, but I think the glyph system will be far more limited than games in the past.

I support the better animation required cause.

Theres not really any more that could have been done with normal weapons. The glyph system is new and fresh. Hopefully it will be better than what we've had before.
