You like to call me n00b because I haven't been around long. Do you feel special because you have more posts than me? Good for you.
no, not posts. i've been here for few years. you weren't. hence, you're new. so noob.

does it really bother you so much that someone calls you new? ::)

Besides, you still haven't given a good explanation as to why you feel obligated to chastise people who like PoR, and I don't really expect one. Thanks for the fun banter and I hope you get over it some day.
i don't chastise people who like it. i only comment on replies of those who try to make others think it's the best thing since sliced bread. it isn't. it's a mediocre dos clone (it was made from dos's engine, evidence being that there are dos's resource files inside the game rom. i even found some soma sprites).

as for why, because i don't want new people to the series to believe that was the best the series could offer. if they would think so, it'd discourage some of them from trying other titles, thinking "it only gets worse from now on", which is incorrect because there are many cv titles better than pork.

as for why is it just mediocre, there are many reasons.
-very poor level design, nonsencial layout, floating platforms, room reuse, awful color palette, repetitiveness, rooms that don't lead one into another, the second set of portraits is just a boring rehash of the first 4.
-the main characters are some of the worst in the series. only dos's were similar, but still better because they came from aos where they rocked.
-there's absolutely no castlevania atmosphere in this game. it's too happy. also the good ending was terrible. "two silly immature kids defeated the ultimate evil, the dark lord who's supposed to be the opposite of a god while trying to crack lame jokes and not taking anything seriously, and then saved everyone. then everyone lived happpily ever after, as the two kids ran off the screen"
-saturday morning cartoon storyline
-generic animu. castlevania and animu don't mix
-the code is rushed and buggy. the game crashes, sometimes for no reason (and we're talking about the real game cartridge here. jorge can confirm), the character animations don't flow right sometimes (as in, the animations jerk around, like richter's jump animation), some things seem unfinished (richter's kick has absolutely no sound effect for example).
-the difficulty levels are lame. instead of real challenge that's based around your skill it challenges your patience, because you can spend only so much time before you get bored of hitting the same boss for minimal damage and dying from 1-2 hits.
-did i mention the characters are lame? :o

tl;dr

the game is not the best game in the series. it's mediocre. almost everyone agrees, don't bother them about it

"rooms that don't lead one into another" What?

Also I think you are a little too exact. You notice when some pixels are wrong or something, because you are like an expert for sprites and animation. I didn't even notice 90% of the things you said. Also, my copy never crashed.

As for the characters and leveldesign and whatnot, you are totally right. SotN has this unique feeling to it, also the cool designed castle. The thing is, I never play it, because it annoys me. Some things are really dated. Like the fact that you have to equip a potion, throw it in front of you and run into it to get healed, then go back into the menu, search your weapon in that huge arsenal of mixed items and re-equip it. Also most bosses are just... boring. And when the inverted castle shows up, I turn off my ps2 most of the times. Shapeshifting or superjumping every few seconds because the ceiling isn't really made for walking, while having to listen to the same two musics all over again isn't really my idea of fun.

PoR is no masterpiece, like SotN. Noone would probably say that. But the system is perfected, you have loads of abilities which are actually fun, unlike the good-for-nothing spells Alucard has, also it has challenging Bosses, New Game+ and difficulty setting. This game isn't art, like SotN, but it's just fun, and I played through it countless of times.

No offense, I just wanted to tell you that some aspects are even better in PoR than in SotN and give you some food for thought, why there are people who actually like PoR.

well there are few cases when you walk into a room, only to find yourself in a different place than what it should be.

for example, 13th street, sometimes you just walk outdoors, change screens that makes it looks like there'll be more outdoors, only to find yourself deep inside the bakery on the next screen.

i actually like that part, were it not for the thing that the shapeshifting takes too long and the forms are too slow. can't wait for esco's hack to fix that, as well as difficulty.

i like how the second castle requires you to use all your skills rather than just doublejump, making the other skills worthless like dos/pork did to 90% of their more cool skills.

hey even though Serio has different opinions,
YOU MUST RESPECT SERIO.  They are one of the coolest people here.

and I'm amused by Serio's reactions to my PoR and Charlotte praises.   ;D

PoR crashed on me, and it was a very stupid error that should not have been overlooked by the testers.

Once it happened, I knew there was quality issues with this CV. And, as I played more, it turns out I was right.

Since this is mostly likely just a revamp of the PoR engine (much like it was a revamp of the DoS engine) I wonder how well no$gba will support it.

GRAH. How can you say something like that without having even played it?

I am so sorry.

so you expected a gothic waitress wielding a rabbit-flail while on magical hover bat rollerskates, in their quest of hunting down Dracula's evil and powerful pet Pig familiar, located somewhere within deep ruins underneath their town tavern's basement?
