What if it is a combination of them both? I think that the Vampire Killer was in the begining ment to be a leather whip, but that one of the artifacts in the "Whip of Alchemy" (aka The Vampire Killer) is the Crimson Stone, wich sort of answers the question about the chainsound.

But who knows. The Vampire Killer is probably just one of many secrets in Castlevania that we perhaps may never know...

The Crimson Stone isn't one of the artifacts. What gives you that idea?

l think in the older games, the whip was the whip in its true form since it was normally depicted a frail in the opening of CV3. But I think once the graphics have improved like in Super CV, the whip is now leather.

It also was animated as a metal whip to show the gamer how better the weapon has become.  I mean, I doubt in the cv mythos, alucard'z spear can level up like in the genesis cv game.

As others have already mentioned, the chain whip was probalby done to show how strong the whip have become. I mean, if Konami did leather whip-longer leather whip-flashing leather whip, it wouldnt be as impressive as goin from leather to chain.

With 3d graphics and the lost of upgrades, Konami has no reason to make it a frail unless it is the director's decision.

Well, I did some research about the Vampire Killer and alchemy, and the Crimsom Stone sounded like it could be one of perhaps many artifacts. But I guess I was wrong. What different artifacts are involved in the making of the Alchemy Whip?

"So is it a leather whip or a chain whip?"

The Vampire Killer is a creature of chaos; it may take many incarnations.

(Sorry, but someone had to say it.)

Well, the chain could be another form like the element whips. Leather being the basic form.

Personally, I find myself wondering whether a leather whip, all enchantments aside, wouldst be able to hold the weight of a fully grown man swinging under a chandelier. Then again, I also wonder how thick a chain whip must be in order to achieve the same effect...
