Castlevania Judgment: The Gameplay Thread

Since I don't think General Castlevania Discussion would be appropriate for this kind of thread, I'll just leave this here.

This thread is for people to post strategies, combos, tips, match videos, etc.  Castlevania Judgment deserves more credit that what other sites are giving it.

From my online experience so far, this is how I would rate the characters in tiers. (Keep in mind, this is just my own personal experience, and it is subect to change as I play  the game some more.)

Top tier: Aeon, Shanoa, Alucard

Top-mid tier: Maria, Golem, Dracula

Mid-tier: Grant, Sypha, Carmilla, Cornell

Low-mid tier: Trevor, Eric

Bottom tier: Simon, Death

Also keep in mind, what I call "bottom tier" is still pretty damn strong.  It's just that, in a game full of strong competitors, SOMEONE has to be at the bottom.  They can move upwards easily once new strategies are found for them.

I don't really follow the Tier thing, and I actually do not have a favorite at this time.

The combos are easy enough for anyone to learn rather quickly.  Afterwards, it's a matter of strategy and figuring out when to guard, when to dodge, and when to L-Counter depending on your opponent's style of play.

I might come back to this thread later when I see some nice winning strategies or things people seem to 'fall for' more often, though.

when i play as dracula alot of people fall for the traditional teleport and fireballs then a dark inferno on the 4th teleoport, i usually do this with new players so its not to difficult or if i fell like playing around, it would get annoying if thats how he fought in the game

Doesn't it feel oh, so, satisfying, to actually play 1. as Dracula, and 2. to actually Win with his in-game-old-style Fireball/Teleport attacks? XD

I never believed in tiers, either. (I played Golem for the sole reason that people called him bottom tier.) But they're still useful, so you know who's being played a lot online and who's "considered" to be the best/worst.

I've been having the most trouble with Dracula myself.  However, I think I've found a reliable strategy against him with my Carmilla.
It's not foolproof, though.  You need nerves of steel and a lot of patience.

From my experience Tiers are entirely a personal affair based off your own play style and talents, and "global" tiers are more a cross section of the most common styles and talents, along with a dose of popularity thrown in.

Tiers on forums let you know, sometimes, which characters are the cheapest.

Speaking of Cheap, last night I had an online match against someone using Shanoa.  I won the first round and on the 2nd and 3rd Rounds, my opponent started double-jumping and using Dominus Anger (the green rain), and I could not reach them.  I was Eric.  It basically became me outrunning/blocking that over and over until I was close enough to land hits.  I was defeated.

However, I issued a rematch with the same person, and again, first round they fought fair (in that they tried regular combos and the like) and I won, and on the 2nd Round he started pulling that again.

This time I had to get cheap, so I spammed Eric's Projectile Blades attack.  My opponent fell to that, since he/she did not know it was a homing attack and would reach him/her even if he/she would double-jump away from me.

Still, it clued me in on some cheap tactics that can be used.  Had I not used Eric, I would not have known exactly how to counter the spamfest.

S/he had to resort to spamming? I hate spamming. Even if I have to resort to it, I never do it since it bores me to death.

Anyway...

Tiers can't really be known until the pros do heavy frame analysis and we learn who gets overused in tournaments.

I just felt like throwing that quote in for the hell of it.

First off, Tiers don't exist. You can fight anyone with anyone and win. Eric has some nasty spam moves he can do, same with Sypha and Shaona. I think Alucard is not to great in this, I mostly enjoy playing with Trevor over any of the characters.

Of course you can fight with anyone and win.  But how easy would it be?

Let's say I was in a fighting game tournament and there were cash prizes.  I would never use Servbot against Cable in MvC2.  I would never use Dan against A-Grove Bison in CvS2.  I would never use ANYONE besides Duo Lon in KOF 2003.  I mean, I would love to, but the possibility of me winning would be close to zero.

That's why tiers exist.

Yeah, it's like I said.

The "cheapest" character implies that it is the most commonly easy to use character for the general player base, but it's entirely possible someone finds the cheap character too difficult to use and uses something weird no other players use often because their style is so different.

drac's worst spam move would be dark inferno, altho the game limits to 4 orbs i believe, but still it forces the other player or cpu to keep running

altho one person was golem i fought all he did was grapple, which killed me fairly fast
