Sometimes I feel like the Castlevania that would make fans happiest would be a 2D HD linear game in the tradition of the classics. It would be beautiful and certainly amazing. No story would be necessary and it would quickly be beaten again and again. What lies before us is not this however. I see a whole exciting world to explore, with a story that has the potential to be great and memorable. An all together richer experience. Then again... if we could have both
Also giz given the team that is working on it and the funding I doubt Konami would do for a side story. They seem to be very excited about this game and since at the end of the trailer said Reborn there is still evidence that this could be more then a side story. Maybe a departure from IGA's story but not a side story.
As long as it:1. Starts a whip wielding hero.2. Takes place in Transylvania(as in Romania, the real world).3. Has all sorts of horror-inspired monsters.4. Has vampires.5. Has an explorable castle....I'm fine with it. Particularly the where it's set. I just don't want it set in some fictional "Neverearth" world with orcs and goblins and hobbits. No Tolkien-vania. Dark, scary Eastern Europe, please! Full of vampires, werewolves and zombies. No furry footed gnomes or enchanted forests where the faeries and unicorns dwell! Save that stuff for Final Fantasy!
On the contrary, the evidence points opposite your conclusion. They're putting a lot of work into this title, having it done by mercury and Kojima as opposed to its usual team. It's being developed entirely seperate from the primary Castlevania team. This game is being marketed to the masses, to everyone, and they're not going to want to bog it down by dealing with pre-existing continuity and the general Castlevania timeline/storyline, as that could potentially and more then likely would put off many people interested in this new 'God of War' like game. Couple this with the fact that there is no evidence to suggest that the main Castlevania timeline has been touched (quite the contrary) and the implications are that this project is entirely seperate; a side-story. A gaiden. Irrelevant to the main timeline and series. If sequels are made, then it will be a part of its own, alternate timeline.Hence the emphasis on 'Forget everything you know about Castlevania' and 'Reborn'. They're trying to break away from the average Castlevania fan demographic and breech the general/hardcore gaming populace.
Sorry guys but this is just another GoW clone with Castlevania as the title. Voice acting aside, it looks fun but the Alucard game looked more interesting. Too bad it's probably non-existent now. Give me another DS or PSP game. "Forget everything I know about Castlevania"? Fuck that.
