The problems I have with the OST is that it is so very different from Castlevania, but so was the whole game. It is good music, but like Uzo stated...it's a movie OST shoe horned into a game. Nomination doesn't automatically make it great.

Well, it seems we disagree then. I don't really care much about whether or not the "art world" thinks Araujo is great. IMO, the score for LoS was generic and very been there, done that.

Personally I feel that both Lament of Innocence & Curse of Darkness soundtracks are way better than Lords of Shadows'. Maybe it's the fact that LoS' ost repeats itself too much.. there's lack of variety. There's moments in the game where it's completely silent & dull. Other moments where you're swinging & you wish a badass remix of a SCIV tune would be playing. Music from the early chapters were still being heard in the later chapters, which was a real "wtf" thing for me since this is a Castlevania game, right?

it's cool for Mr. Araujo that his music is getting recognition in the art world 'n all that but speaking as a die-hard CV fan, it just doesn't live up.

It is good music. You may like it or not, but hats off to Oscar is in order for his commitment to the project and his talent. And it's about time the Castlevania community appreciates his work. Other professionals around the world are already doing it as you may see.

“No way, this score got nominated for an award? What the hell was I thinking?”

Indeed.
It is awesome music that deserves the recognition it's getting. I don't think anyone is denying that... but as a Castlevania soundtrack, it's slow, boring and as people have brought up, feels shoehorned into the game.

Ahasverus, your criticism of the older tracks is unwarranted and makes you come off as obnoxious.  Throwing your appeal to authority probably won't carry much weight as it did the first time you tried to do so.

I think the problem is that while it is great music, it isn't castlevania music.  It also depends on whether you like classical music or not.  Besides, I swear that a few of the tracks were classical versions of old CV music.  This is just the sense I get from reading the posts.  I could be wrong.

When I Listen to Los's soundtrack by itself, it certainly does hold its own against someone as great as Zimmer, but it just didn't quite work and would have worked better as a game soundtrack if the tunes weren't recycled so much through out the game (see the "Waterfalls of Agharta and the Vampire/Sword master battle) AND if we heard more true arrangements of traditional Castlevania staples instead of a 5 second note progression similar to "Beginning" or "Nothing to lose" and the music box arrangement of "Vampire killer" as well. Two of these pieces alone have proven themselves more than sturdy enough to have classical arrangements in the past which I'm sure most of us have heard. I think Alverez Arujuo is more than capable to deliver these with mind blowing results using his talent and then some. Hell, I'd be happy if it wasn't limited to just those two pieces either. There are so many other pre-Yamane works that he could cover that I believe would shock us. I think he was on the right track with the "Waterfalls" piece and should have stayed on it COMBINED with his own works which would have kept the soundtrack from getting stale from being just redux of the original tracks and constant reuse of his own pieces in the game. If this was a budget issue, heres really hoping this doesn't become an issue in the sequel.

I don't give shit for art world. I just don't like it on a Castlevania game, and a lot of people agree, it's unfitting.

I think the point was hit fairly well in this thread. The music is good, but not quite fitting for the CV series. Not all types of music fit with all types of movies or games. I think that's a problem that isn't necessarily just pegged down to LoS's score, but how a lot of things are done with various reboots in general. Not everything can be everything, because you loose the what makes the thing "unique" when you try to make it everything.

Anybody else find it kind of annoying how we keep getting estimates from different sources on the DLC release date, while Konami just sits silently about the whole thing? Between this, the initial lack of promotion for this game, and the obnoxious pricing for the Harmony of Despair DLC, Konami seems to be doing a piss-poor job selling this series lately.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

This really nails it.  Let's hope that the sequel if not the DLC for the LoS has music that better fits what a CV should be.  I'm actually surprised that we got a version of vampire killer, but not a version of bloody tears.  Maybe, it will be in the DLC.  However, the music has to at least fit the area.  For example, if there is a chapel area in the DLC, if I was the person who chose the music, I would probably choose something like Bloody Tears or Requiem for the Gods (Royal Chapel in SotN).  But, that's just my opinion.

We need to keep in mind that LoS was an attempt of trying something new and it was more or less successful in being an excellent game.  In terms of being a CV, it didn't really have that feel.  Let's hope that Mercurystream learns its lesson in regards to making CV games.  It is my opinion that Konami develops the stories and chooses the music for the CV games whereas MS handles the programing.  I mean out of all the 3D CVs, LoS has the best graphics.

See what your much hated music has gotten...
International Film Music Critics Association 2011 Nomineess
http://moviecitynews.com/2011/02/international-film-music-critics-association-2011-nomineess/
I'ts just, unbelievable, the art world praises the score too much, and you still hate it...being nominated along Daft Punk (TRON) is incredible!!

Then they have bad taste. There is not an ounce of creativity in Lords of Shadow's soundtrack. He was just going through the motions to make a typical movie score. Also keep in mind that the "art world" often recognizes everything out of America and Europe more than it does stuff that was made in Asia and that they obviously are only nominating it because it sounds like a bloody film score.

It is good music. You may like it or not, but hats off to Oscar is in order for his commitment to the project and his talent. And it's about time the Castlevania community appreciates his work. Other professionals around the world are already doing it as you may see.

"Good" is entirely subjective. And I did not think it was good at all. Michiru Yamane and the SCV4 duo, and the guy that did CV64 were far more talented imo.

Edit- Oh, how special! Lords of Shadow was nominated along side of Lego Universe! Truly an amazing feat!

Not at all. The nomination mean something for the entertainment world but not the art world. All  know that the good art in general (movies, music) aren't the ones who receive awards or the most popular
