Im gonna interject here and drop something that's been on my mind for a day or two.

The chain saw ability could be a reference to how you could spin the whip in some Castlevanias. I mean, i know whenever I spin the whip, (particularly when it can move around freely, not quite the auto spin that CotM has) I imagine something similar to the chainsaw happening and think "man that would be cool".

thoughts?

What I've also noticed is that recently, the N64 Vanias seem to have enjoyed some retroactive admiration. Which they totally deserve, IMO :)
Yea, I noticed that too.  I've always loved the N64 Vanias.  Hence the reason I was so put off when LoI came along and it was a completely different (and less evocative) animal.  Everyone keeps talking about the older games they'd like to see get a Chronicles or Rebirth treatment.  Me...I'd love to see Legacy of Darkness get the nod.  Yea, CVIII and such could be redone with nicer graphics and such, but I somehow doubt the remake would ever crest the spirit of the original.  LoD stands to gain alot more in a proper remake as it was largely that game's technical limitations that held it back from being the definitive 3DVania to date.  A remake could address that and allow it to see its full potential.  Of course, it'll never happen...but it's nice to dream sometimes.  It's such a shame that Konami long ago ordained those first 3D CV's a critical failure.  They'd likely not touch either of them with a 10 foot pole ever again. :'(

Doesn't Richter from SotN have this ability? When he does his dash attack with the whip spinning around him and just cuts through his foes as if it were a chainsaw.

Yea, Castlevania has been plagued with rampant anachronisms for quite a while.  No sense in complaining about it now.  We're talking about a gaming franchise that put Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the mummy, Medusa, and every mythical creature in known literature into the same dark, haunted castle.  Are gun toting armor golems and motorcycle riding skeletons really that jarring?

Plus the same dark castle is on top of Atlantis/Greek/Roman ruins in TRANSYLVANIA

CV3 started it, which was in itself a giant reference to Lupin the Third. It just kind of stuck after that.

That "Death" was probably the lamest boss fight I've ever had the agony of playing :(

Probably gonna write a complete review later, but I'll summarize my current feelings to a single sentence. "Usually entertaining, looks beautiful, but doesn't really even try to capture the essential elements of Castlevania". The plot twist at the end was beyond ridiculous and to add insult to the injury, you start punching Satan, of all possible enemies, in the face and it feels wrong on many levels. One of the reasons being that he looks like some sort of goth porn star

However, the post-credits sequence was cool. I'll get Reverie and Resurrection to review them all at once.

No. That's not how I mean it. That was an incredibly piece of cakey fight. It didn't frustrate me because I only had to slap his slow, sorry ass to oblivion wuith a couple of hits and then ponder what was that thing and when am I actually gonna fight Death. It was so ridiculous it wasn't really even an actual boss fight. With this bone dragon thing, I had to wait, climb, wait, climb,..oops, I dropped, better start again..

I can't get Reverie working. I have downloaded and installed it several times, but the map just keeps showing 12 spots. Tried removing the patch, reinstalling the game and reinstalling the patch. Doesn't help.
