i think i should just go out and get myself my ps3 game and Street Fighter 4 now to celebrate these new developments.  i waited after the Alucard game's trailer got released, just in case they pulled a Resurrection on us and canceled it.  i think it's safe i'll be able to play a ps3 Castlevania game next year now.

Sometimes I feel like the Castlevania that would make fans happiest would be a 2D HD linear game in the tradition of the classics. It would be beautiful and certainly amazing. No story would be necessary and it would quickly be beaten again and again. What lies before us is not this however. I see a whole exciting world to explore, with a story that has the potential to be great and memorable. An all together richer experience. Then again... if we could have both

Also, if Lords of Shadow is referring to actual characters in the game, rather than some sort of mythos, than we may see Dracula not as the main villain, but standing alongside other equally powerful beasts. I am getting a weird feeling that if there is a vampire villain, he wont be Dracula, but it is too early to tell i suppose.

It does mention "It is written that a pure hearted warrior will claim the power of the Lords of Shadow as his own." If this isn't apart of IGA storyline it will mention it because Mathias in his own right was a pure hearted warrior (not a fighter but he did participate in the Crusades) and he did claim the power of darkness as his own. So far Im getting the feeling that this story will be a departure and make a new storyline strong enough to stand on its own. So I guess in a sense it would be a side story.

Also giz given the team that is working on it and the funding I doubt Konami would do for a side story. They seem to be very excited about this game and since at the end of the trailer said Reborn there is still evidence that this could be more then a side story. Maybe a departure from IGA's story but not a side story.

On the contrary, the evidence points opposite your conclusion. They're putting a lot of work into this title, having it done by mercury and Kojima as opposed to its usual team. It's being developed entirely seperate from the primary Castlevania team.

This game is being marketted to the masses, to everyone, and they're not going to want to bog it down by dealing with pre-existing continuity and the general Castlevania timeline/storyline, as that could potentially and more then likely would put off many people interested in this new 'God of War' like game. Couple this with the fact that there is no evidence to suggest that the main Castlevania timeline has been touched (quite the contrary) and the implications are that this project is entirely seperate; a side-story. A gaiden. Irrelevant to the main timeline and series. If sequels are made, then it will be a part of its own, alternate timeline.

Hence the emphasis on 'Forget everything you know about Castlevania' and 'Reborn'. They're trying to break away from the average Castlevania fan demographic and breech the general/hardcore gaming populace.

If there's anything that would make me hate the classic Castlevania games, it most certainly isn't the games themselves; but rather, that ignorant fraction of their fanbase.

Sorry guys but this is just another GoW clone with Castlevania as the title. Voice acting aside, it looks fun but the Alucard game looked more interesting. Too bad it's probably non-existent now.

Give me another DS or PSP game. "Forget everything I know about Castlevania"? Fuck that.

As long as it:

1. Starts a whip wielding hero.
2. Takes place in Transylvania(as in Romania, the real world).
3. Has all sorts of horror-inspired monsters.
4. Has vampires.
5. Has an explorable castle.

...I'm fine with it. Particularly the where it's set. I just don't want it set in some fictional "Neverearth" world with orcs and goblins and hobbits. No Tolkien-vania. Dark, scary Eastern Europe, please! Full of vampires, werewolves and zombies. No furry footed gnomes or enchanted forests where the faeries and unicorns dwell! Save that stuff for Final Fantasy!

it will have strong story/characters/cinematics, but
dumbed down gameplay like MGS games, but the story and cinematics is what sells them so much in the world, so that's a good thing.

do you think Kojima's MGS2 habits will return and there will
be a part where Gabriel is naked in one part of the gameplay?    :P

I'm getting the distinct impression that this forum will be monitored by parties close to the new game's development...

You do have a good point there but it also has mentioned what I posted above indicating that Mathias indeed claimed the power for his own. Which could be foreshadowing of the events that took place during Lament. Also during times when franchises like these are doing poorly because of sales or aren't meeting the companies standards they will entrust it to someone else or scrap it. Given that Castlevania has been around for 23 years now they couldn't go through with just scrapping it so they are making it more appealing to the masses to strengthen it. Also Kojima mentioned "For years to come" which means he and MS might have sequels planned out. The original Castlevania story was different from IGAs as well so he went in and changed it so he could do "his story" so in all honesty IGA's games took the series in a different direction like this series could do. Castlevania is

So the Alucard game is more "interesting" because it showed Alucard right? Because... that's ALL it showed.

Since you said that I am pretty sure thats all that could be ever shown. If gameplay was shown it could've looked like CoD all over again.
