Castlevania is full of japo-silliness, that's why I'm happy that an european studio is making this.

Everything comes full circle

No, just the one is from Alice.
That pink thing with the antenna is an homage of something too, isn't it?

HAHAHAHAH! See, that's exactly what I'm talking about. We're already impure =( I think the ideal Castlevania enemy comes from what popular culture generally regards as "evil". Death, for instance, sporting his usual representation in arts, Dracula as seen in famous movies, Medusa with the looks of Clash of the Titans, etc. We all can agree these are quite shocking embodiments of evil, at least in their respective historical contexts. But none of this bullshit has something to do with ninja maids, seriously. A naked woman who is half-plant, half woman, found alone in an enchanting environment, can be one hell of an experience when properly handled (SotN for instance). But for these poor creatures you simply cannot afford for hope.

I'm greatly pleased with the look of this game. They captured the "dark journey" feeling of the early 'vanias. Rondo of Blood was the first Castlevania not delivering in this area. Why? Because of Maria. They destroyed both the gameplay and the creditability of the impending doom, dooming Castlevania itself single-handedly in the process. Remember Dracula's Curse? That game was about 4 damned souls (Trevor hated by people, Grant enslaved as a monster, Alucard who is angst incarnated, etc) in a hopeless quest to defeat evil. Even Bloodlines, with its motorized armors and skeleton soldiers, is able to convey a powerful sense of evil, mostly when you are beheading harpies while making your way through a demonic tower of Pisa. As much as I enjoyed games like Aria of Sorrow in terms of solid gameplay, these games are much like "a bunch of people randomly trapped in a castle" than "I'm in a hopeless quest to defeat evil, ocasionally with revenge in mind". You might say I'm "mood hungry" after years of japo-silliness, as properly pointed above.

*fistbump* That's what I miss the most about Castlevania games lately, that sense of fear and evil that has spread across the land. Say what you will about the Ogres and Goblins we've seen in the screenshots but I bet that you wouldn't wanna be in a dark forest with them, especially when one of them is armed with a small bomb. At least they appear more threatening than a karate maid.

Did anyone noticed the chained and staked coffins in the Wygol Cemetary art? That was an awesome touch. The other environments look badass, especially the one that appears to be an homage to the waterfall area in CV4.

Debate is healthy, this is ridicuolous:
http://kotaku.com/5483661/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-+-belmonts-inferno/gallery/

The guys' a moron. He's spouting nonsense under the assumption that CV LOS was started after Dante's Inferno, by calling it a clone. Not to mention he fails to recognize that there are lots of stories that are similar, and this comparison is far from similar.
