Im glad that Cox has re-confirmed that the game will not have QTE's when fighting your enemies so that the player wont get distracted by buttons all over the screen. So instead the player will just watch Gabe pull off finishing moves without waiting for the big buttons to appear on screen.

Like how Darksiders did it for example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPvu0QqJd3c

I was actually okay with that... its not really a QTE, its an indication for finisher. QTE is something you have to react to, while finishers is just telling you can finish them off with the button... like NG2. Except they didn't have a distinct indicator.

The clock tower has always been a standout area in the Castlevania games, for all its little mechanical workings and intricacies and I'm glad they're fleshing it out in this way. It looks stunning! Evil Butchers in 3D too...it all adds to the atmosphere of malice that Dracula's castle is apt to carry. I'm definitely keeping watch over this one.

Great preview of the game---

CLOCKTOWER AREAS EPICNESS CONFIRMED , you jump gear to gear avoiding stage hazards.

http://gameinformer.com/games/castlevania_lords_of_shadow/b/ps3/archive/2010/04/09/preview.aspx

As the clocktower was in Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness in 3D, and should have been hence.

...Back to Lament's trailer, they did show a few platforming things to throw us off, like that room where the wall pieces come out and you have to jump up higher and higher. But yeah, that was a sad rarity in the game. LoS looks far more serious about platforming...though time will tell if it's as serious as Castlevania 64 was about 3D platforming. As someone pointed out, the balancing on the platforms looks a little too Prince of Persia. I mean, does the character really have to hold out their arms like a trapeze artist? lol. By the way, that LoS area with the water and stone heads looks more South/Central American or Chinese than Greco-Roman in aesthetic, IMO.

The idea of a fixed camera is good for scale, but sometimes the forced camera angles can make you feel distant, almost like in a 2.5-D or isometric game.

I remain cautiously optimistic, and think I should probably not look at too much more media.

Did I miss something? Are there screens showing the clock tower area?

im makin a guess now that with the fixed camera at least one part will have you play from a 2d view

I didn't see any as of yet, but I'm speculating that since this game looks amazingly detailed thus far, they really could do something amazing with the clock tower area, because all those gears and inner workings would make for some very pretty and involved surroundings.

lol, I feel stupid now XD I thought they were just pillars.

That is awesome though. I like how the design isn't too mechanical in nature but still serves the purpose. It looked a lot more like a really big hall to me.

From the Game Informer preview:
Quote
"Secondary weapons return in Lords of Shadow, including the iconic dagger and holy water. These will be acquired by destroying environmental objects like candles, replacing the hearts usually seen in the franchise. "

CANDLE WHIPPING!!!!! Now we're talking. From everything I've read in all these previews, it would appear Mercury Steam is making some serious concessions to the fanbase now, and, not inconsequentially, the more I read, the more on-board I become.
If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

Not to get all theoretical but if this game is set in 1047, the mechanical clock wasn't even around yet was it? I mean LoI was set in 1094 and there was no clocktower in that game for the reason they didn't exist yet. So if in fact those pillars are cogs of some kind, it would be pretty inaccurate to have them as part of a clock. But then again, I it's JUST a game...I'm just sayin  ;)
*I'm not a newbie...I had several hundred posts with this screenname on the old board*

To be honest I dont think those are cogs they dont even look like cogs to me at least they just look like regular pillars. The area shown in those screens seems to look more cathedral-ish then clock tower-ish.

EDIT also if you look at those "cogs" they aren't connected to anything else other the wall or other stone structures and dont seem to be connected to anything else "mechanical" that would be seen in a clock tower.

But like thunderbrand said

Just sayin...

But if it is indeed the clock tower I wont fuss over something like that.
