And then there are the "fans" who fiercely protect anything this game has offered so far, as if they were afraid Konami would scrap the project if they get a whiff of constructive criticism.

Yeah, every time I'm enthusiastic about a new game in this series I'm being accused of exactly that - fiercely protecting anything Castlevania just because I happen to genuinely like what I see...
Oh, and "constructive criticism" coming from these forums? That'd be the day...

Not sure if you've already been talking about this interview yet (its a few days old), but here's one that Cox recently posted:

http://www.gamestm.co.uk/interviews/castlevania-lords-of-shadow-the-epic-konami-interview-part-2-of-2/

He makes a couple references to characters from previous games again, but with a few more details than I remember before.  He mentions a redesigned character who changes into a wolf.  I have to wonder if that means we'll be seeing a new version of Cornell in this game (which would be a tremendous reference to Castlevania's first shot at 3D).  He also talks about a character that will help you travel about the world.  Perhaps by changing into a wolf and letting you ride on him?  Maybe Cornell has been redesigned to change into an actual wolf rather than a man-wolf?  Of course, Alucard can change into a wolf, but they've insisted he doesn't appear in the game.

That preview was already posted, but I really wouldn't be surprised if Cornell does make a return in this.

Several artciles have mentioned travelling through castleS (plural), as in, more than one. That would be pretty interesting to say the least. I liked that aspect of CoD...as the Abandoned Castle was my favorite area in that game. I just hope LoS gets THE castle done right. Whether it's Drac's or someone elses, if it's anything like the artwork then we're in for a treat. I mean look at the 2 pics of the castle they have released. Granted it's just artwork but if the actual castle in the game has that kind of scale...it's gonna be badass.

random thought:  i wonder if that stone titan gets smaller as you chip away at it like Koranot.  maybe, reassembling itself into smaller forms each time you smash it to pieces?

i think those are creature bats.  the similar enemy in Super Castlevania IV was categorized as a "bat creature" in the All About Akumajo Dracula guide.  or else they're devils or imps.  it'd probably be mislabeled a Gargoyle if there was ever a US guide for it, like the Super Castlevania IV one was mislabeled in Nintendo Power.

Incidentally those enemies in Chronicles are almost identical to the scv4 ones and are just another example of stuff that was osmose'd between the two games.

Which makes sense since they were basically the same story. CV1 and Chronicles told Simon's story after he arrived at the castle. SCV4 showed what Simon had to go through before finding the castle in the first place. Then obviously CVII showed what happened to Simon after the battle. What I really wish Chronicles would've done, was morph all 3 games into 1 huge game. Where killing Drac and destroying the castle is only the 1st half, then the 2nd half of the game is a re-telling of CVII. That would've been great. That said, I still think Chronicles was great, very well done IMHO.

I'd call voicing opinions about the enemies constructive.

I didn't mean just you specifically. The discussion on LoS has been pretty polarized. It's almost as if one's got to gobble this all up with a smile or you get snide comments about not being a true fan who's calling the game shit before it has been released.

I fall somewhere in between these two poles. I was one of the original gripers, but the obvious recent deference to franchise staples being included has largely won me over, though I'm still not wild about the titans.

On the other hand, there are some here, who shall remain nameless, to whom the game can be no wrong. As an example, recently we learned that there were to be two jump buttons (which has since been strongly denied by the programmers). Despite the obvious deficiency in this setup, before we knew it was a mistake of the reporter who wrote the article, there were people, again, remaining nameless, who defended the set up, arguing that what is obviously a bad idea should be given a chance.  That's just blindness.
If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

I get it. It looks like blind acceptance on some peoples part, and maybe i've just always tried to be an optimist, But I just think so far most peoples complaints (there were a LOT of people with a LOT of strong complaints at the beginning) have since been revoked. It only bothers me when people are so quick to condemn something they no little about, and really how can you KNOW until you've played it. Im not saying people shouldn't have opinions, they should, but acting like you know something for a fact when you don't  bothers me. As much as i defend it, I'm still worried about the enemy design, amount of reference to classicvania, the combat, all kinds of stuff. But im hoping when I play it my worry will have been for nothing.
Go. Set Forth! Both your own life and hers are at stake.

Yeah. I don't think you have to like everything. For me, so far, there's only a few things I don't like, but the rest of it is looking good. I DO hope we see some of the more classic enemies return. I do want my zombie zombies, maybe like the ones in SCV4(there's the difference between the robed and un-robed zombies), different types of zombies that look different(not just palette swapped). I'd also kinda like to see semi-classic CV enemies that aren't considered AS classic as, say, skeletons, bats or armors. Enemies like those crows/ravens, owls, peeping eyes(which as sorta classic), those eyes that drip bloody tears, and mudmen. I'm hoping, since Cox is a big SCV4 fan, we might, at the very least, get ALL the monsters from that game in this one. That would be killer, as there was some great monster variety in that game!

I want all those classic enemies and references too, but I also want NEW stuff so that Castlevania evolves a little. The goblin design looks very far from the Castlevania I know, I can totally admit that. But in the future maybe goblins will be a natural part of the Castlevania universe. And a little design choice like that do not make or break a game, so I'm not worried. I want LoS to introduce new and unexpected stuff, not just be nostalgic about what's been.

i wouldn't really mind the goblins if they didn't have those pink pig noses. they are more hideous than the CoD orcs.
