And yes it is the game's fault. They decided to continue the lame trend. It's their decision, and a lame one at that.
They're just following the mainstream, blame the general audience instead of the developers.

Personally, i LOVE checkpoints, I don't play games for challenge, I play games for fun and story, I passed through a lot ofCV's via gameshark/gamegenie because die is not hat I like the most in a game :)

Everything comes full circle

Check points are fine if you have multiple lives. Save points are fine if you have no extra lives.

If there are no lives, your death should send you back to the save point. Falling off of cliffs should penalize by health and send you back to the last platform or so.

Unlimited retries continuing at the same place just makes the game too easy.

Oh no, I am low on health as I reach this boss! Don't worry, I wont have to use items or skill to pass him, I will simply die and regain my full life and continue right here at the beginning of the battle!

And yes it is the game's fault. They decided to continue the lame trend. It's their decision, and a lame one at that.

That's what Demon's Souls did, IIRC. 8)

I think this has to take place in the later stages of the game because the castle is in the later stages of the game, the prior areas take place outside.

But this could be any castle. I haven't heard anything about there only being only one castle/indoor area in the game. I think there will be more castle-esque places in this game long before you reach THE castle.

Maybe it's like Belmonts Revenge with each Lord having their own castle, and then when they're taken out and a plot revelation occurs, THE castle shows up in the sky above the three connecting castle.

Dear Diary:

Today Ahsaverus wrote something on the Castlevania Dungeon forums I actually agreed with, it was amazing! I thought about writing home about it, but decided against it.
If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

you cant checkpoint infinite times, you loose life in each one and if u die u have to restart , similar to "lives" system i think.
Here is the preview where explain it if you wanna take a look, but is in spanish.

Remember CV1 NES? You started at the beginning of the STAGE if you died. And then if you ran out of your 3 lives or whatever, you started at the beginning of the LEVEL. I liked that balance, pure and simple..

I honestly don't know which system I like...

I do like checkpoints for some, and I do like saves for others... really, it's just how they do it. Check points should not refill your life bar though... it should bring it to how much your life bar was when you got there, if not a little less each time until you're screwed from being too much of a pansy to pass that part with so many tries >.>

On the other hand I also like Save system like SotN where you save and that's it. No checkpoints, you die and you didn't save since your last save 17 hours ago? Well ... you're an idiot.... and screwed.

In the end, it all boils down to exactly how difficult this game is. If it's Ninja Gaiden difficult (which I'm sure it isn't) I will really appreciate checkpoints or saves. Otherwise I'd go insane. However, if it's Metroidvania easy, most of us will breeze through the game in no time, and then try to make the game harder by setting up some "rules" of our own.

But yeah, I play games for fun, not to "prove" something to myself or others. I'm not 14 yo. Some people claim hard games are automatically better than easier games, which is a big fat lie. Also, just because a game is user-friendly and has the decency to include saves, doesn't mean it's for pussies. Being good at a really hard game only means you've been spending waaaay too much time in front of the tv practicing. Anyone can be good at basically anything if they practice. (I'm kinda good at Ghosts'n Goblins by the way... lol!)

Meh... I somehow feel like that was an insult lol. I think I'm pertty good at NG... though it's true I did spend hundreds of hours on the game... but it was waaaay fun. Same with NG2, but I do agree that people making such blanket claims like a harder game is a better game are idiots. There are tons of fun easier games.

I do think difficulty adds to fun though. When easy is just..... easy. You beat it and you have nothing left to do, since it was easy, theres no more challenge to get you going into the game more.

If you have limited tries at check points, then it's fine with me. But if no.......then having not to worry if you die, because you can try as many times you like from that check point and even continue from there when you switch of your console, then this is going to be the easiest Castlevania game in history!!!!

Oh no, i couldn't kill that boss and i have to leave for school, work!! Oh well, it's ok. I'll beat him when i come back home, since i don't have to play all that stages to get where he is. I only have to load from the check point and kick his ass...... :P

I think the platforming looks really fun and that's what I'm most excited for with the gameplay. I don't think the combat looks like anything special, but that's not really a bad thing. I'm hoping Cox is speaking the truth when he says there's just as much platforming and puzzles as there is combat. The E3 trailer turned me off a bit but the new gameplay footage has me getting excited again

Yeah, the combat really isn't doing it for me. It kinda lacks punch when Gabriel and the enemies smack each other. It does look interesting with the spell system in place, but how needed the spells will be remains to be seen. Kinda just saw spell buffs for the Butcher fight and I couldn't really tell it it made all that more difference besides making Gabriel glow so~
