Well, a game shouldn't really strive for realism. Especially not when it has goblins, vampires, and magic anyway. I mean the magic thing is a total excuse to include those type of edges.
And well, LoS's platforming still consists of convenient edges and cliffs and etc to shimmy and grapple anyway. It would probably seem less so if there were, say, multiple paths in platforming, but it's usually a linear path for the player. I think the inherent problem is how slow it is, and the lack of control at certain parts like the swinging.
