LoS: Death went back in time and killed Mathias' Father, ultimately making him an orphan and take up his childhood friend's Name and Ultimately Creating a world where there is No Belmont to Kill Dracula, but Death did something to Piss of Satan at the verge of time travel making Death and Dracula good guys.

Its accually an alternate universe created by this effect, meaning that there a 2 deaths floating around and Mathias never went to the Crusades with Leon.

Since we're doing the whole Star Trek theme...

This different timeline thing is what I've had in mind too. I see there being different timelines that are determined by pivotal events such as when Dracula becomes Dracula. If I were to rewrite the whole CV universe, I'd thing of a way to bind it all together without trying to make it work in one single canon. Oh, and I would leave Satan completely out of the picture. Including him in the story as a living creature was not such a good decision. I always preferred the Japanese way of only speaking of nameless, evil deities and abstract corruptors (like Chaos) instead of yanking out the worst bad guy in the history of fiction :(

Star Trek is the best example of a rebootquel I can think of, so it wouldn't be too bad to go down that same route.

Actually, Satan could be a decent bad guy.

...If used correctly. Maybe not have him show up at the very end, or give some sort of hint that he was behind it all? Also, I always preferred to call him "Lucifer" in any type of fiction, simply because it sounds cooler than "Satan".

Whatever you wanna call him. It's just so absurd and antiquated, IMO. I think he is more like a symbol of rebellion and selfishness, not the embodiment of evil. And even he were, it's kind of silly to think the devil wouldn't have better things to do than to meddle with individual mortals.

On topic: so..skeletons riding motorcycles in the 1800's was really ridiculous, yes? How about goblins throwing grenades in the 1000's..?  ;)

That was such a cocktease. we saw the trailers and they showed the footage of Gabuella on his chair in the cathedral, along with "DIE BELMONT!" and naturally made us think ZOMG DRACULA

Also- Gunpowder has been around as far back as the 11th century, possibly even the 9th century. The Chinese created it through their studies in alchemy. It was spread around the old world as far back as the 13th century due to the Mongols. So its not a stretch to have explosives around in Lords of Shadow.

A little interview with Enric Alvarez, say's he acknowledged the mistakes made in Lords of Shadow and that the follow up game will be better.

Not buying it until he says what mistakes.

EDIT: God fucking dammit. It says they've learned from mistakes, but they don't specify any and instead praise the derivative parts of the game.

"Alvarez pointed to Castlevania's titans – huge bosses that rekindle memories of classic PlayStation 2 game Shadow of the Colossus – as one of the game's achievements.

"When we finally finished up we were tremendously proud of the result, and we even felt more admiration for the work of Team Ico with Shadow of the Colossus," he said."

How about admiring Castlevania? You know, the game series YOU'RE FUCKING MAKING GAMES IN.

I'm hoping that since LoS did Konami a solid one in sales that they'll lift the overbearing parental shtick this time and let MS do what they want with the sequel.  I can't help but think that a little too much input from Konami execs fearing a backlash similar to what previous 3DVanias had brought on played the biggest role in so few familiar CV elements making it into the game.  We already know they steered the music composition away from traditional CV fare, it only follows that similar "guidance" was enforced in other areas of the game as well.

I see a lot of potential in what they did with LoS, but if they carry on with LoS2 without addressing some of the concerns of the long time fans then I won't be so forgiving in my judgement of it.  I give them the benefit of the doubt for now as it was their first attempt at making a game in this legendary series...and making that initial stab as a reboot with alot of pressure from the publisher is no easy undertaking.  But I'll need to see some definite evolution in their game formula for the next entry.  There are some things they need to do more of (creepy gothic environs, traditional CV baddies), and some things they need to do less of (contrived puzzle minigames, QTE's, hand-holding platformer sections). Also, I enjoyed the musical score for LoS, but it wouldn't kill them to produce some epic arrangements of long time favorite CV tunes for the sequel.

Personally, I think they should focus less on the long winded narrative for LoS2.  Give us a Belmont hero wielding a very cool VK whip, and send him into Drac's land of darkness to slay the vampire lord.  Keep the template simple and classical...and apply the better parts of LoS to that formula (great combat, great visuals, and respectable difficulty).  It wouldn't take a full dry-dock of the first game to produce a sequel that is fully worthy of the Castlevania title (to new and veteran fans alike), but they DO need to address some of our concerns and disappointments if they want us to all stay on board with this new series.

To be honest, I liked the Titan battles. yeah they were straight from Shadow of the Colossus, but I thought they were fun. The music helps there. Plus they look nice. The first 2 anyway. The Dracolitch, despite being a bit more original, was not as impressive as the other ones.

Also, At least they aknowledge they made mistakes. Many devs would just ignore criticism. Now the issue here is to see what they considered their mistakes to be.

So far, I have played the game to the catacombs and the bosses have been pretty unenjoyable. I'd have to say the worst ones have actually been the huge ones (titans especially). No more of that, please.

And what is with the abundance of QTE? I thought Cox or someone else said there weren't supposed to be practically any of them in this game? If pushing a button at the exact right moment - to avoid having to climb a big ass enemy from top to bottom to try again - is what modern gamers love, I feel kind of old :(

Edit: so yeah, what Munchy said.
