Should've LoI & CoD been 2D games?

Had they decided to not go the 3D route for these titles, do you think lament & curse would've benefited greatly from the 2D formula, or would they have still retained the various problems that most fans see in them (level design, A.I., etc.)? Would the positives of 2D gameplay outweigh the negatives, or vise-versa? Share your thoughts.

Nothing could save the plot lines of either title, I'm sorry to say. I'll be back for more later. - Sorry it's just that's what springs to mind whenever I think about these games.

...And a gameplay gimmick is a gameplay gimmick no matter what format it's presented in, 'kay?

Honestly, I think that they would have been worse as 2D games.

If they followed the same format as they did of their 3d version, it'll be just as bad. I didn't really hate either though... I just didn't really like them either.

Well, Lament's combat would be nice to see in a 2D game.

Agreed. Because actually the more I think of it, I'd like to see that myself.

Lament of Innocence was basically a 3D Harmony of Dissonance.  Curse of Darkness was basically a 3D Sorrow game.  With key differences, of course.

I like Lament just the way it was. I know a lot of people don't care for it but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I think maybe CoD could have benefited from some sort of a change, and it's possible that 2D could have made it better, but I doubt it would have had that big an effect on it.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I'd say so. As they are, the PS2 games have more in common with Final Fight than with Castlevania. Not that I don't love me some Final Fight, but I want something different out of Castlevania.

I actually enjoy playing Lament of innocence. The only thing that killed the game for me was Mathias becoming Dracula which is utter bull cause Mathias was a winer (The Japanese seem to like that kind of villan) and has no real power or strength of self as did Vlad Tepes III. In life Vlad was a fearsome force to be reckoned with. He was even more dangerous then Stoker's character, Dracula! That just proves the old saying; truth is stranger then fiction.

But the CV Dracula is only based on the IRL myth Dracula.
It's not supposed to be a exact copy of it.

I had no problems with Mathias becoming Dracula, I enjoyed the game from start to finish.. Now I just have to find all relics :P

Ive never been able to play Lament more than 20min before I throw the controller down. One of my friends liked it alot but I cant stand it. Not a single thing about that game is well done as far as Im concerned. I can say the same thing for CoD as well but atleast I could tolerate playin it. Ive actually beat it.

What??
LoI Is 100 imes better than CoD!!

Well.. the only real thing different is that the maps are less tedious in LoI than in CoD.
In CoD every area is ridiculously large, and every corner looks like the other.

LoI had i'ts fair share of repeat rooms, but still, it did not take 30 minutes to move from one end of an area to the next.

True. Very true. The game was simplistic in it's layout and the CoD map layout should've fallowed it's example; To. The. Letter.
