New screens at IGN: http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/077/077650/imgs_1.html

Wow, this game really looks awful. I was trying to keep an open mind, not judging a book by its cover and so on... and maybe this game will, in fact, be fun to play. But man... is there anything in those screenshots that hasn't been recycled? I can't see one single new thing. Visually, Harmony of Despair is a hodgepodge of recycled fail. It saddens me a lot to see this mess  :'(

Recycled assets is better than reselling the same exact game people already bought before.  This is a combination of different games, so it's really something different in many ways!  Also the majority
of Xbox360 community never played the DS games or SOTN, so all of this will be new to them!

But I would think true fans would welcome all of this nostalgia because it's really the fun that counts! ;D

Castlevania fans should be the last to care about graphics.    I guess Castlevania fans rant about graphics more than Megaman fans.  >.>

This game wouldn't have this much content and features if the graphics were build from scratch (and if it did, it would end up costing more.)

And it would feel less like a Castlevania with new sprites because new sprites and "better" graphics could risk losing the classic atmosphere.  (hasn't everyone learned Rondo remake, Double Dragon or Turtles in Time remake?  The updated graphics really killed the atmosphere. Rondo remake especially looked so clunky. )

Alucard and Soma have new cool afterimage effects added!   And Gergoth has a new laser effect and animation applied to it!  There really is new things here and there! Especially like how the room with water can be poured into another room below it.  Things like that count as new.  As well as the design of the levels like levers that open access in another room, the whole level design is a new combination of styles!
 :)

I'd rather buy a remake, even a port, rather than getting this sad excuse for a game.

lol you are not even interested in this game? Why are you even posting in this topic?  Is trolling in a Castlevania thread your favorite Castlevania game?  :P  I wonder about the so-called "logic" some people have of visiting topics they have no business in.   I guess they are bored of all the remakes and ports they have already bought.  >.>

Well it's impossible to reason with short-sighted deadbeats, but that will not change the fact that just as many people out there who will appreciate and enjoy Harmony of Despair, whether solo, online or both.   ;D

Is trolling in a Castlevania thread your favorite Castlevania game?

Look who's talking.

Anyway, a good game ported is better than a new trash game any day.

I’m sorry but, I strongly disagree with this.  By that logic, nothing would ever move forward for fear of alienating the current fans.  Castlevania is the only series I know of that continues to recycle sprites from a 17-year old game, and we as fans should expect a little more.  Its that kind of attitude that has kept Castlevania stuck in a rut for many years.

And by the way…

Is trolling in a Castlevania thread your favorite Castlevania game?  :P

Anyone who says Lords of Shadow will be better than Harmony of Despair are brainwashed by Kojima!...  Lords of Shadow spits on everything Castlevania and can never replace 2-D Castlevania!

In light of your earlier statement about Lords of Shadow, accusing uzo of trolling is a bit hypocritical, wouldn’t you agree?

Nope. I never play games online, and rarely do so these days with people in person. I just don't get that much enjoyment out of it; playing alone is a lot better. I like single player games and the stories they offer. I also can absorb everything when I'm alone and not distracted. It's like watching movies: I generally get far more enjoyment out of watching them by myself, with some exceptions like outrageous romps, such as Braindead.

But.. but.. I have.. I wanted to play.. -tears up- how could you?! First, Gonzo, NOW THIS. I AM DONE WITH YOU!

Uh, I think the DS games already lost all that classic atmosphere anyway.

well I was referring to the "from SOTN up until now" era of classic.  Maybe retro would fit better than classic, but the DS games are still good regardless.

it's mainly recycling sprites from most recent Castlevanias, nothing wrong with that.

You'd rather risk this series being all updated graphics and being something too different and out of place  like Resident Evil and Bionic Commando nowadays?    You'd accept any Castlevania as long as all of the graphics are brand new and state of the art, huh?  -.-;

Personally, I don't mind some reuse, but it's complete copies. No more effort is place into them. I would risk the series being updated, and maybe being out of place at a chance of something magnificent. Look at SotN, it is extremely different from the older castlevanias and it made it big. Sure, Cod and LoI took teh route and didn't do it that well, but I liked CoD a lot. There are definitely parts that just sucked, but it took a chance and I think it did a decent job. Same oculd be said about the 64 CVs, though I've never played them and they dont' appeal to me much.

Recent Castlevanias?  Its recycling sprites from Rondo of Blood, a game that came out back in 1993, almost 20 years ago.

And as far as updated graphics making it "too different and out of place", I'm glad you brought up Bionic Commando.  Bionic Commando Rearmed was a retro remake of the original game that used new graphics, and it worked great.  It still had the retro feel and the nostalgia wasn't lost at all, but it also felt fresh because they updated all the graphics.  That was a retro game that actually felt like there was some effort and care put in, whereas this game looks like another cheap and lazy effort.

Keep making apologies for this game all you want, there is no excuse for continuing to use 20 year old recycled sprites for new games.

A Boy And His Blob used completely remade spritework, and the game is a visual masterpiece.  Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better-looking and easier to play than its clunky old NES predecessor.
