The game looks nice as a non-CV game, but as a CV game..not a chance

What a joke.

Looks like Castlevania to me.

Looks like Castlevania to me too

Quote
But it is almost exactly like GoW.  Gabriel moves like Kratos.  Swings like Kratos.  All of those swing animations are just like GoW.  They could've done something different.

Have they said anything about alternate main weapons?  I'd guess not because Gabriel is a Belmont, but then again the Combat Cross isn't technically a whip.

So how should he move, like Michael Jackson lol

God, all these finnicky brats are pissing me off. Never happy, and don't understand the gaming industry, and how things need to get done to be successful, both to fans, and newcomers to CV. Time to take a break from the Dungeon again..

For the love of...when games are part of a certain category, they always borrow elements from each other, when said elements work! God of War borrowed things from Devil May Cry combat wise and platforming wise from Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. ( I would even say SotC if I could remember when it came out.) Just because a game becomes ridiculously popular, doesn't automatically mean any game with elements like it is automatically exclusively 'ripping it off': how can it when 9 times out of 10, it got it's OWN elements from a previous title before it? (With maybe it's own spin on it?)

God of War didn't do anything extraordinary that hasn't been done in games before it (the QTM, platforming, fighting...), it just did a lot of those elements very well.

So it fights like GoW...which is reminiscent of Devil May Cry. WHO CARES? The combat works for all three games, let it be. And how the heck does he 'swing' like Kratos? Is swinging NOW exclusive to that character? I mean, I could see if he did a flip or struck a certain extreme pose every time, but just swinging now is exclusive to Kratos? If that's the case, then Kratos needs to stop walking on beams and other ledges like the Prince from Prince of Persia.

if two ppl go out in your backyard each with a 10 foot long chain and start swingin it around assuming they dont kill themselves somehow do you expect those swingin chains to be magically completely different visibly? How bout if they both had katanas? or both had longswords?

All the comparisons are to GoW cause the weapons are similar. No one seems to complain Link does a jump attack and slams the sword to the ground similar to any other character with a sword from a super popular series. No one complains when damn near every char in every fuckin game uses a sword. Or EVERY SINGLE FPS game has some kinda machine gun.

What Im sayin is theres only so many things that can be done and only so many ways to do em. So if Gabriel attackin looks like Kratos attackin... my question to you is wtf do you think its gonna look like?

Game very mainstream and popular = anything remotely like it is copying it, even if it copied something else. That's how most minds work. It happened with Halo when it got popular too. This isn't the first time it will happen and it won't be the last.

GoW stepped things up.  It did the elements it copied well, in a new way.  There was innovation.  Based on what I've played, LoS has no innovation.  It copies GoW directly.  GoW is the second cousin of DMC, but LoS is GoW's brother.

I just really hope this game does something new.  When the time comes, I hope people can say "hey game X looks like LoS" just like they are saying "hey LoS looks like GoW".  I don't think that's going to happen though.

I work in the industry (how do you think I got to e3), and as a dev I understand why they did it this way, but as a fan I'm saddened that it had to happen like this.

Think back to SotN.  That game copied other games, but it was the top of 2d gaming.  Probably the best 2d game ever.  It added things to the equation.  Is this game doing the same thing?

one thing i liked about the PS2 games was that when you struck an enemy, you really felt like you impacted it.  it flinches and there is a satisfying snap or smack.  i haven't played much God of War, but did play the demos, and my memory is a little hazy on how bad it actually was, but i don't like it when the weapons slice through the enemy as if they were butter.  one of my biggest fear for LoS is that it will "feel" like this.  like your swinging through air that happens to have an enemy in a certain spot whose health bar simply goes down.  from what little i saw of gameplay, the impacts the combat cross makes don't seem very satisfying, but it might be just fine or else i might be able to get used to it because it's a Castlevania game.

I think the main issue is that people tend to write everything off as a GoW clone before even giving it a chance now days, just because there are elements that are the same, and it's gotten completely annoying at this point. It's just more annoying when it's pointed out that GoW isn't that original either.

But I do see your point.

From the gameplay I've seen of LoS, it does remind me of GoW, but overall, I've seen things that make me believe the game has a completely different feel. I think demo wise, they maybe should have chosen a place a little further in the game, that showcase more of what makes the game different. That's what makes games like Bayonette standing out from DMC and Dante's Inferno being a (arguable) rip off of GoW. I personally think LoS will have elements but branch out and do it's own thing, just like SoTN.
