About the music: I'm a huge fan of vg music. I have pretty much every cv ost and remix album ever, not to mention many more GB of other vg musics. I judge my vg music thusly, if I don't enjoy it enough to want to load it up in WinAmp, then it isn't doing it's job. The music in LoS is a Hollywood ost for a movie that came out in a vg format. If I'm fighting or exploring or whatnot, the music should inspire me, repetition of tracks kills that. I didn't even like that in CV3. On top of that the music itself is just bland. The ambient tracks are far more suited to putting me to sleep at night rather than accompanying any game play. The battle musics sound like they came out of a film. They sound no better than the music in Van Helsing. In fact Van Helsing actually does have some catchy themes so it's better than the LoS ost. I'm used to playing games that have music that make you feel excitement, and I'm not talking back to the times of chip tunes. Look at the ost for Xenosaga Episode 1. That is a great soundtrack with music that is well composed for a vg and performed by one of the most famed orchestras in the world, it is in stark contrast to the garbage in the sequels that more closely resemble LoS's pathetic attempt to reel in a general audience. I enjoy vg music for a reason and LoS has none of those reasons.
About the sequel: CV3 reboot sounds great, but for the love of god drop the stupid throwback names. They're ridiculous and piss me off more than anything. It's so contrived as to devalue the attempt to appease old-school fans. If you wanty to appease your core fanbase just add some classic tunes, kill the QTEs and ledge crawing. You wanna make a great CV game then stick to the basics and be creative about adding more to the experience. Don't just use a collection of stuff that's already been done. QTE's especially piss me off because it was stated that there wouldn't be any and they just weren't implemented well. They work in GoW because they don't slow or interrupt the pace of the combat and are executed in an epic over the top way. CV doesn't need that. There is one thing that LoS needed more than anything and that is creativity. The monster designs we're creative enough, the story was ok, but the music and gameplay need much more than it got. There really isn't anything interesting about how the gameplay was put together. Obviously there is always going to be something that is taken from another game or rehashed from the past, but it seems like that was elevated to an art form here. It's really like nothing new was added to the classic formula. There was nothing new for the most part that didn't come from another game. That should be the focus of the sequel gameplay wise, drop the pretentious crap from competitor titles and focus on new ideas to compliment the old-school core. A magical chain-whip type weapon could be much more interesting. Just look at Pandora's Tower they're doing some very interesting things there. Be inspired by the essence of that. Find new ways to make the CC/VK more interesting and versatile. And I don't wanna hear any more of this "lone warrior fighting supernatural monsters" crap. Castlevania is about a gothic action-adventure experience centered around classic horror figures. Nothing more, nothing less. At least that's what I think.
