Your console timeline (minus the handhelds)

1982 - 1984 - Atari 2600, owned lots of games including Pacman, Donkey Kong, Enduro Racer and Pole Position. Gotten rid of in 1984 because my Atari Computer was more fun to play on. Plus ET soured me on the system.

1986 - 1991 - NES - Had lots of great games and good times with it. Owned about 25 - 30 games. Handed down to a younger cousin once the Sega Genesis came out.

1989 - 1993 - Sega Genesis - Had TONS of games for it. Big fan of Sega, Owned Sonic the Hedgehog, Alex Kidd, even actually owned a copy of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. Continued to own it until Sega CD died off.

1991 - 1992 - SNES - Owned Super Castlevania 4, Super Mario World, and a couple of others, Probably about 10 games at most. Sold after a year but hey it was a good year.

1993 - 1995 - Sega CD - Owned a fair amount of games for it. Mortal Kombat, Rage in the Cage, Prizefighter, Ground Zero Texas, even purchased Night Trap the original from Funco Land (what Gamestop was called back then) I loved my Sega CD. Probably one of my favorite systems. Sold once I got a 486 and just went strictly PC Gaming for a while.

1999 - 2000 - Sega Dreamcast - Yeah skipped over the Saturn and got a Dreamcast. Loved this console as well. Had a good 20 games for it. Got rid of it when it was first rumored to be discontinued.

2000 - 2000 (about 3 or 4 months) - Playstation 2 - Oddly I really didn't like it when it first came out. It wasn't until the later years of the system that it got really good. I think I probably owned 2 or 3 games for it. And even those I didn't like.

2001 - 2005 - XBox - Had a fair amount of games. I tried to convince myself I loved it but I really didn't. Certain games yeah. But I remember getting a copy of Halo and absolutely hating it. Same goes for Halo 2. Sadly this system didn't have the kind of games I liked.

2004 - 2004 - Gamecube - For a very short period (about a month) I owned a Gamecube. I think I only had it to play Resident Evil. For the most part I loved Resident Evil remake, Eternal Darkness and Bloody Roar. After I played through those to be honest I didn't really have an interest in keeping the console. I owned about 2 or 3 games at most.

2005 - 2005 (about 10 or 11 months) - XBox 360 - Owned it. Had a couple of games perhaps a good 10. Had XBox Live Gold. Got rid of it after my 360 broke 4 times and had to be sent back to MS. Got sick of dealing with that.

Brief period in 2008 (about a month) - Wii - Had it just for Wii Fit. Downloaded the Homebrew channel. Used it for a bit. It was actually my Mom's and she lent it to me. She winded up returning it to Costco and getting her money back. I don't think it was for her. To this day I am not sure I have any interest at all in actually owning a Wii. I'm not really sure why. Just doesn't appeal to me.

2006 - present - PS3 - Own it. Love it. Have 10 PS3 games and 3 PS2 games. I plan to keep this system till it runs its course.

Did you ever own Coleco-vision or Intele-vision? They were out in the 70's.

You know I actually played a game called Squish 'em Sam on a Colecovision at someone's house. But no I didn't own it or Intellivision. When gaming was out back before the NES most people owned an Atari 2600, however most of the consoles during those days were very similar. The competition wasn't like it is now. Companies also like Hasbro were more in the mix. Video Games were more like Toy or Movie Accessories. Some had their own identity, but the industry wasn't treated the same as it came to be treated. Mostly you'd run down to a department store like Sears and pick up what you could find. You pretty much played the same games on every console that was out. Mostly everything was multi platform. You could find Donkey Kong on Colecovision as well as the Atari 2600. Nintendo back then was like how Konami or Capcom is now. They were one of the major 3rd parties out there.  You even had Sega as well who was up and coming making games such as Congo Bongo and Zaxxon. Though I don't think anyone cared about exclusives, who is better, what features, blah blah. People just wanted to play games. If you had Pacman you were happy with the horrid bleeps and odd look to the game. It was all you had besides running down to an arcade and going through a bunch of quarters. Also your joystick (before control pads) had only the stick and one button, this could also be used with the PCs that were around back then. Most PC and Video Game accessories were interchangeable especially Atari since they had both a game console as well as a PC out at the time. I guess you could say it is kind of like how USB is now a days.

I'm including handhelds, since the Lynx was a huge part of my childhood.

1984 - My dad brought home my aunt's Atari 2600 after she outgrew it.  I played lots of Space Invaders, Combat, Outlaw, Slot Racers, and other classics.

1988 - Several neighborhood friends had NESes.  I spent lots of time with Contra, Castlevania, Zelda, Mario 1-3, Wizards & Warriors, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden, etc.

1990 - Convinced that Nintendo was trendy and therefore something to be avoided, my dad let me go in 50-50 with him on an Atari Lynx.  I had to keep my grades up or it would get taken away until the next report card.  I eventually accumulated about 50 games for it.

1991 - One of my friends got a SNES for Christmas.  Some of his first games were Super Mario World, SCV4, Contra 3, and Zelda: aLttP.  Some of my very best gaming memories were from these days.

1994 - At a sleepover at my buddy's house I was introduced to Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Maniac Mansion.  I stayed up all night with 12 other kids taking turns at both games.  Another great gaming memory.

1995 - I got my first job and saved up the cash for an Atari Jaguar.  It blew me and everybody else who tried it away.  It was so ahead of its time, we couldn't figure out how such awesome stuff didn't catch on.  Still too young to understand marketing and marketplace bias, I guess.  I eventually got around 40 games for it, along with the Jag CD.

Late 90s - I began to hate Sony and Nintendo and everything else that was mainstream.  I played plenty of Bond, Mariokart 64, Twisted Metal, and other stuff at friends' houses, but I was so gung-ho for Atari that I was trying hard not to like everything else.  I did however get my first NES, since it was so far past its prime that my folks could no longer argue that I only wanted one because it was the in-thing to have.  I picked up all the classics that I had played as a kid and got into them like I should have a decade earlier.

2003 - I bought a PS2, the first time I had a mainstream system while it was still being sold new.  I got it mostly for Lament of Innocence, but enjoyed other greats like DMC, Burnout 2, Timesplitters 2, Shadow of the Colossus, and the Silent Hill series.

mid 2000s - I started to collect games more seriously.  I got every major system and a handful of games or more for each one.

2009-10 - I picked up all three current-gen systems, so that I could finally pick up any major release regardless of platform.   And I started working too much to enjoy all the gaming stuff I've build up.

Dates are foggy at the beginning, since I've been playing games for about as long as I could talk, lol. I still own all or parts of my earliest gaming stuff.

1994-1995ish - Played my first video on the NES, Super Mario Brothers. Continued to play NES games quite a bit, playing mainly Gauntlet, Castlevania III, Super Contra, and Clash at Demonhead until my dad moved on and took the system with him.

1994-1995ish Got a Sega Genesis. The only games I really cared for and really played were Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Earthworm Jim. I didn't have very many games for the Genesis.

1994-1995ish - Got a Super Nintendo. I spent most of my time playing Wario's Woods, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and the Donkey Kong Country games (all 3).

1997-1998ish - Got a Sega Saturn. The only reason why I ended up with it was because apparently the Playstation had too many "mature" games on it. My mom was picky with what I played as a kid. The only games I ever had for it were Nights in Dreams and Sonic R. I didn't like the Sega Saturn.

1997 - Got a N64 and Super Mario 64. Of course, my mind was blown since I had never seen 3D graphics in a game before (yes, I got the N64 sometime before the Saturn). I spent most of my time playing Star Fox 64, Mario Party (all 3 of them), Pokemon Stadium, and Mario Kart 64.

2000 - Got a PSOne. I was so excited because, I had wanted a Playstation on the day I got the Sega Saturn instead. I ended up getting Digimon World 2 as my first game for it. The Playstation would have the biggest impact on me out of any other system I had. I found my love for RPGs thanks to randomly picking up Lunar 2 Eternal Blue Complete one day. After that, most of my Playstation library ended up RPGs, so I have a nice collection. Of course, the PS1 was also where I eventually picked up Castlevania Symphony of the Night, because I remember playing Castlevania III back in the day. The Playstation is also credited to getting me into the Castlevania series.

2001 - Got a Gamecube. I really didn't care too much for my Gamecube. I got Luigi's Mansion as my first game for it, and I didn't care for it either. The only good thing that came out of my Gamecube was Tales of Symphonia. I LOVED that game to pieces. It's the only thing I really ever used my Gamecube for. I get the original Nintendo back from my dad some time between 2001 to 2004ish.

2003 - Got a Playstation 2. I got it for my birthday that year, and picked out the game .Hack//Infection as my first game for it. The PS2 would become the system I have the most games for (with a total of 47 games) over time. I started off with not really getting anything but RPGs, except for fighting games and the Castlevania games. Then, I got Devil May Cry 3 after reading on some forums of other Castlevania fans who also loved the game. Tried DMC3, and fell in love with it. So, in the end, my PS2 library ended up with a mixed assortment of genres. The last game I got for the PS2 was actually recent, and it was Sakura Wars ~So Long My Love~.

2007-Current - I would pick up a Wii and Xbox 360 during 2007 (Wii early 2007 and Xbox 360 Christmas 2007). The Wii I never really cared for, other than Homebrew applications and the Virtual Console. The Xbox 360 was only picked up because of Tales of Vesperia and Devil May Cry 4. I would have gotten a PS3 for Devil May Cry 4 if Tales of Vesperia hadn't been on the 360, and at the time the 360 was cheaper. Between 2007 and now, I've also been collecting older games and systems. So I've picked up the Dreamcast, since I was never blessed to play it, a replacement Sega Saturn, and many Super Nintendo, Nintendo, and Sega Genesis games. I've also picked up many hand-held goodies before this period of time, but I decided not to mention them since I didn't mention any hand-helds in my timeline (Even though the Gameboy was EXTREMELY important to me).

All of the systems and games I picked up over the years I have kept, except for the Nintendo, which my mom broke (so I had to buy a replacement), and the Sega Saturn. My mom lost the Sega Saturn somewhere (or gave it away). I still had Sonic R for some reason though. All of my stuff all still works too, except for the Playstation game Klonoa that I had bought used in terrible shape. It never really worked great to begin with, but one day it just sorta died. Luckily, I have the Wii version now anyway so it doesn't matter.

Here's the order in which I got them. Might sound out of order, but as I got older and got more into games I added on some systems for those 'special' titles. I'll possibly try to add more detail, and timeline later.

NES - First system and glad it was the time I started playing. Feel bad for kids today who won't look at these games the way we do.

SNES - Basically me and mine will always think it blows Genesis out of the water. Wasn't even a thought to get a Genesis.

Playstation - Ah, got this when I was a 7th grader for Christmas. First two games were Parasite Eve and Gex 2. Squaresoft ruled this system for me.

Dreamcast - Got the Christmas of 8th Grade, so did my best friend. We loved the Dreamcast. Still have mine, and will never get rid of it. Capcom really put out for it.

Sega Saturn - Bought this a little later, had to get certain SNK games on it, plus Panzer Dragoon Saga. Dungeons and Dragons Collection is another favorite.

Genesis - Free from a friend. I got into Castlevania, and bought a new copy of Bloodlines for it. All other Genesis titles that matter I have on Sonics Genesis Collection on 360.

Turbo Duo - Bought for Dracula X. Ys I & II was a must purchase as well.

Playstation 2 - The system I own the most games for. Def the most bang for your buck. Plus all the Collections and Anthologies are a dream come true. Thanks SNK and Capcom. Konami were yours...?

Xbox 360 - Had to buy one finally a couple years back and I love it. Some of the games just suck me in for hours. Realism really does help. And the RPGs on this thing make it very hard to go back and play JRPGs for me.

Wii - Once I noticed Ogre Battle 64 and Dracula X were finally on Virtual Console, I knew it was time to buy. Plus the Gamecube support (Metroid Prime!!!). I was sold. And the Black Wii looked so cool. Thanks for coming out with a Red Wii that's a better bundle two months later though Nintendo... ARGH!

Gamecube - My plasma has grey sidebars only in 4:3 mode. And I hate that. I got a Gamecube for very cheap, so bought it for more enjoyment of my GC games on my 32 4:3 TV. I figure I ought to use that thing for something... Plus the Indigo Gamecube is just neat lookin'.

Dates aren't exact, but I'm trying to be as close as possible.

1987 - Got an NES. Was saving my $3-a-week allowance until i had enough to buy it...haha, my dad made sure it was a surprise when he brought it home.
1992 - Got an SNES by selling off my NES stuff.
1994 - Bought a Genesis and 32X after saving up money from my summer job. Bought this instead of a Playstation because I thought the name "Playstation" was lame. Stupid kids. Ended up selling this stuff and the SNES at a garage sale a few years later.
1997 - Picked up an N64 after getting from layaway at K-Mart. Probably the most underwhelming system I've owned.
2002 - Bought a PS2 after reading about Manhunt, of all games. Plus my roommate took her PS2 with her when she moved out, so I had to buy one.
2003 - Bought an NES again, and vowed to never sell another console. :D Bought all 3 CVs immediately, along with some classics, and some games I had as a kid.
2004 - Asked my stepdad if he wanted to trade his Genesis for my N64, and he just gave me the Genesis straight up (which included his copy of Bloodlines). Yesss.
2005 - Bought a Gamecube after I had an itch to play as Link in Soul Calibur II. Just as Manhunt did with the PS2, a very unlikely game drew me in to buying a console. It was good.
2008 - Bought the current-gen consoles: The Wii, the 360 Elite, and the PS3 MGS4 bundle. Don't regret buying a single one.
2008 - Bought an SNES after seeing it on sale for $20 at a used game store. Too good of a deal to pass up.
2008 - Saw an Atari 7800 and 4 games at a garage sale for a dollar. Bought a controller, but still need the cables. Might get around to that one of these days.
2009 - Bought a Dreamcast. Same situation as the SNES, even the same price. Bought Shenmue, can't think of anything else to get.  :-\
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

1990 - 1992 Atari 2600 Present from Dad. Later give it away. Games were installed into console hardware and I didn't have any cartrifges for it. Except for one metal plate for it's joystick, nothing left from this console in my home. =(
1992 - 2001 NES Still working. Nearly 70 cartridges for it. Most of them were bought after 1996 from shops and friends, so most of them are chinese.
2001 - 2005 SNES Strangely found a mint one console. Bought it for Contra 3 and Donkey Kong Country 3. Though it was pain in the back to find cartridges for it. I need to fo to the other end of the city I buy there used cartridges. I think I have 9 games for it.
2005 - PC After buying PC I opened world of emulation for myself, so naturely consoles stop being my priority.
2007 - PS2 Bought it for Mortal Kombats and Castlevanias. Have all Mortal Kombats, Castlevania: LOI, MGS3:S, and few other games. Never planned to buy it for other games than those ones.
