Castlevania Lords of Shadow explain to me please?

So I just beat the new Castlevania Lords of Shadow and I understand its a reboot but isn't Leon Belmont the first Belmont?? Isn't it stated that Gabriel is a orphan? and is he following the steps of Mithas from L.O.I.? Or is it a entirely new story?

Well, Leon *could* happen, but it's be an entirely different interpretation in an alternate universe.

I sometimes try to imagine Gabriel and Mathias being the same person. It works for a while until I realize that it..well...doesn't. It's a shame, cause looking back at LoS it could've made the official timeline, had Cox wanted. There are bits and pieces all over the place that would've made sense. Gabriel is even a descendant of the Cronqvists, if I'm not mistaken. Albeit some random Cronqvists. (Why even use the name if it's not THE Cronqvist? Blah..) And Gabe is going through stuff that could've been taken straight out of Mathias' life... well, sorta. Anyway, I totally prefer consistency over these alternate universes.

It's a completely different story.  It has nothing to do with the other games and it won't ever.  I heard that there may be two different timelines happening at the same time (the old one with Iga and the new one with Cox).  Honestly, LoS isn't much of a castlevania.  I believe that it should be it's own action/adventure/platformer/horror series separate from castlevania.

It's a reboot, all of the things that happened in Castlevania over the last 20 ish years do not apply here.

Problem here is that if LoS had been its own game (without the Belmonts and CV villians, but same levels and graphics) an entire world of gamers would've cried "omg this is A LOT like Castlevania!". This was the case back when LoS was first announced as a new IP. Now, put the name "Castlevania" on the game and the very same people think it's not Castlevania enough.

I dunno. There's no logic here.
Personally, I don't know what Castlevania is anymore, so any game that has the name "Castlevania" attached to it - regardless of genre - is most likely a Castlevania game. Simple as that.

All we got back then was a short teaser of some guy swinging with a whip and nothing else. Of course that is going to remind people who are Castlevania fans of their series but the problem is that a lot of other stuff revealed later didn't.

I wonder what would have happened if LOS launched without the Castlevania name and no ties with Castlevania at all but STILL had that ending.

Boy oh boy this forum would have been on fire.

I still think that people would've felt that LoS is WAAAY too much like Castlevania to not actually be a Castlevania game.
There's no way the similarites would've gone unnoticed. Though I obviously can't prove this cause it never happened.

I think it would be safe to assume that it wouldn't be Castlevania if it took place in an alternate world called "Elandia" and starred four warriors named Gaborx, Cayim, Andora and Elhus, where they must re-waken the forces of old to stop the fortold collision of the Elandia's three moons. That probably wouldn't feel like a Castlevania game, even if they go out and give Gaborx the Belmont surname, make the main antagonist(a dark knight mage) Dracula and name the three moons Olrox, Brauner and Carmilla. ;D

Problem is, if Konami says it's a Castlevania game it IS a Castlevania. Maybe by name only, but still every bit as legit as the original NES Castlevania.
Also, careful what you write in these forums. Konami may very well pick up on your idea and make a game of it, lol! :D

I agree.  I remember ppl here were bashing the IGA games when LOS was first announced, saying that this game should be a CV game and that it is going to be better than the IGA 3d games - some ppl actually thought this when seein a short teaser of LOS.

Now we have ppl sayin that it isn't a CV game.

That's more of a testament to how teaser trailers don't paint an accurate picture, than a statement about the game itself.
Ha ha, I remember the old SquareEnix FMV commercials, where the actual game was NOOOOOOOOTHING remotely like the FMV's! xD
