I'm definitely getting this, but I have to say it doesn't look like it's on par with my favourite Contra games. Level design actually looks a bit uninspired. And the enemies making noises when they die is already annoying. And - blimey! - you have a life bar? Very well... I hope the game provides a good challenge anyway.

Also, I miss the constant miniboss gameplay present in Contra Hard Corps and Shattered Soldier. Here it seems more run'n'gun and less encounters with spectacular monstrosities. Even good old Contra III was jampacked with memorable miniboss moments, rivaling that of any modern action game. This looks like it's straightforward level after straightforward level. Maybe I'm wrong though. At least the chase in the end of that video was 100% Contra.

Anyway, in the end I'm sure I'll like this game for what it is :)

Hard Corps: Uprising shows what all post-Hard Corps/pre-4 Contras should've been.
Anima look-a-like? Thanks, but no thanks.

And - blimey! - you have a life bar?

Believe it or not, the Japanese version of Contra Hard Corps had the exact same type of life bar system. But it was removed in the US version.

I think the life bar is only for Uprising mode, in Arcade mode, I think if you get hit once, a life is subtracted (either that or you have less health bars.   Arcade mode has no upgrade system like Uprising mode, it's good Arcade mode tries to preserve the difficulty and challenge of the classics, while Uprising is for those that want an easier time.)

I actually really hate that the three-hit life bar in the original Hard Corps was taken out for the US and I think European versions. I first played the game by emulating the Japanese version, so when I finally picked up the US cartridge, I was soooo pissed it no longer had the life bar. Made the game needlessly more difficult than it should be.

10 minute Hard Corp Uprising preview of 1st stage (2 players)

http://www.gamesradar.com/xbox360/hard-corps-uprising/preview/hard-corps-uprising-video-full-access-preview/a-20110214174427944089/g-20100604112333179057

Good reports say that it is one of the hardest games in the last few years and very Contra like (yay!)

Your thought Contra Hard Corps was too difficult?  It's great it's so tough, that in a way ups the replay value even more and makes victory more rewarding!    ;D  And you can find video walkthroughs for tips and tricks if you don't want to figure it out on your own.  Even hardcore games like Contra:HC are entirely winnable, pattern memorization is one of the keys to survive.

The demo was pretty fun. I'll buy it when I have some extra cash. However there is some complete bullshit going on. The two characters you guys were talking out earlier you have to buy separate for $5.00, I believe it was 400 MS points. So a download game winds up being 20 bucks instead of 15. I will likely wait till it's 1/2 off if they want to play this way. This download content stuff is getting out of hand!

Yeah, Konami seemed to do the same crap with Harmony of Despair, so it doesn't surprise me here, either. They really need to learn how to start pricing this stuff.

...well, okay, unless everyone still buys the stuff regardless. Then they're geniuses.  ;)

They probably intentionally forgot to because they're no-longer working with cartridges.

Wow Sayuri really brings a new skillful way to enjoy Contra.   It takes a lot of technique (and courage) bringing a sword to a firefight.   ;D

Yeah. Getting up-close and personal with the enemy. To give her a slight advantage, it looks as though her sword was coded to be a little stronger then the guns. It would definitely be interesting to play through.

They're still cheapasses for making us pay for two more characters, but damn this game is good. My main complaint is the normal walk is far too slow, but it's pretty awesome.

Also, watching my brother beat this, one of the later stages has a very blatant Castlevania easter egg. It is HIGHLIGHT FOR SPOILERS the infamous Staircase! Before one of the last boss fights, you walk up a very long red-carpeted staircase, complete with huge-ass full moon in the background. This game rocks so much. Spoilers end here.
