This radio drama is nothing like I imagined it would be. It sounded kind of badass at first...

I thought it would have been left open, as a prelude to the unnamed Alucard game we got a 2 second teaser of.

Thank you so much for your efforts in publishing this in English, I was curious about it's content...my God, couldn't they AT LEAST provide us a more appropriate story with a manga illustrated by Ayami Kojima included?

I don't like them mixing with the supreme original SOTN content..it was a masterpiece, just let it be if they can't live up to the earlier standards!
(why would Alucard have any problem in defeating Magnus..or any opponent at all generally? he's the most powerful character in the series, the only one who could slay any opponent in just a few seconds..(2xring of varda+crissaegrim or Alucard sword+Alucard Shield+LVL 99=D...)

I think the focus of this radio drama is on Alucard's inner struggle to overcome his other vampire half & his bloodlust - which is more of a spiritual/ mental battle. In terms of physical combat, Magnus probably knows he isn't a match for Alucard, but his aim was to tempt Alucard into succumbing to the dark side through his magic and his words. Moreover, SotN introduced him as an enigmatic centuries-old dhampir... don't we want to find out about his sordid past? :P

If the script focused on physical fighting, then radio drama would not be a suitable medium to portray it. They might as well make another game. Like you, I'm also wondering why they chose to do this, rather than a manga by Ayami Kojima (budget problems, perhaps?)

Castlevania seems to make weird decisions when lending itself to derivative works. Stuff like the Belmont Legacy and that canceled Castlevania III adaption were polar opposites from what was currently the direction that the game took. I mean, just compare Warren Ellis'   goat abuse and Portrait's slap slap kiss interaction between the two lead characters. Can you imagine that being part of the same series?  :-X

It seems like Castlevania is trying to pander to too many types of fans....hahaha

at the time Konami was trying out their new internet radio thing, so they had to take a stab of making a Castlevania story with this venue.  i love audio drama and wish more US companies would dare to do something like it with our own favorite franchises.  in order to hear Star Trek or DC Superhero audio theater, I have to listen to fan made stuff or "really" old stuff.

Yes you're right..it's just that they easily could have optimized it with a ayami kojima manga..or perhaps a short, but well made anime, or maybe just a few 2D scenes representing this story..voices only makes it stressful and sort of lame(don't get me wrong, I absolutely prefer japanese voice acting!), if they only could put more priority on it..

Hello, Danceofgold! Your translation is excellent!
And it was the one of the most awaited translations (for me) !  :)
Thank you! ;)

However, there is one more title, long awaited by non-Japanese speakers:
novel Akumajo Dracula: Kabuchi no Tsuisoukyoku (sequel of DoS)
http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Akumajo_Dracula:_Kabuchi_no_Tsuisoukyoku

Scans: http://www.vgmuseum.com/mrp/multi/Memorabilia/collect-adkabuchi.htm

I have tried to translate it by myself (with Google translator)
but the translation process was extremely slow, and I abandoned it.

Please, could you try to translate it? It is very interesting what happened after DoS,
creepy story with Orlox (so-called "Big stupid mooch"  ;D ) and Death, and much more!

Sounds interesting.  I've always wanted to see if anything happens after DoS.  I do have one question though.  One of the characters wields the holy whip and is Julius's apprentice, but it says nothing about whether he is a Belmont or not.  If he isn't, how can he wield the whip unless we go back to the PoR shit of how a non-Belmont can wield the whip's power if they give up some of their life?
Anyway, I look forward to being able to reading an English translation of it.
Behold my power and tremble

According to the Castlevania wiki, it's just another whip that's less powerful than the Vampire Killer. Some theories on it's origins could be that it's the same whip Soleiyu uses against his father in BR, the "Hunter's Whip" Morris passed down to Nathan (remember that Hugh seemed to respect the power of the whip rather than Nathan himself), one of the many whips Jonathan wielded, etc.

In case I haven't thanked you. Thanks for translating it. It still sucks, but that is not your fault... it's the alucard fanboy/girl in konami's fault.

I've done the first bit and posted it under 'Fan Stuff'.. but frankly I'm not really interested in this novel. And it's really tedious... I bothered to do Nocturne of Recollection only because I'm an Alucard fangirl, lol :P

Heh I'm now uploading the radio drama on youtube with subs, starting from chapter 1. I like the way they use SotN music in the background, especially Teus Deus Meus when Richter was fighting Magnus.
