The Alucardvania has been dead since 2008 guys! Cox said 3 teams pitched 3 different titles, and MercurySteam's pitch got chosen, so akumajo dracula ps3/360=DEAD, just like OBL. It's not being retrofitted to the NGP, or anything like that. It's down the tubes just like Resurrection so until a reporter has the balls to ask IGA about it there's no point in wondering about it. It's gone, finished, poop, Konami has moved on without it and so should we.

However nothing has been said that hints Konami isn't interested in creating more 2D titles (more to the contrary, actually), so the possibility of a 3DS title(s) being announced is very likely. There was even a demo shown of CV1 on 3DS hardware that was talked about with much enthusiasm a while back.

We don't know if the Castlevania game rumored for 3DS will be 2D or 3D, but I'm sure something is coming. IGA's had a devkit for a while, he's stated he has ideas for the series, there were rumors reported back in December that he was involved with 3D modeling artists, and there was a report a few months ago that MercurySteam made a prototype Castlevania running on 3DS, using the gyrosensor.

I think there's no way Konami would ignore announcing something, given the buildup for a title to be on 3DS. The fact it's the 25th anniversary of the series makes it icing to capitalize on such an occasion. Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Contra, and even Castlevania have indulged into anniversary events in the past, or are currently. I just hope that if we get a game (it seems likely IMO) that it'll be a better anniversary-esqe title than Portrait of Ruin.

MercurySteam better not make a CV title for 3DS. I'd like to see them focus on consoles, they really have no experience with handhelds so should they try to make a 2D-esque title & it fails, then CV fans would not be happy, oh no, except for those that like this new direction & hate everything about traditional CV. But at the same time if they get assistance from some team members from past games then it could turn out decent.

and Foofy, you love PoR don't lie.

My name's Foffy, and I was one of many who were tricked on the PoR hype train before it came out. Being leaked about all of the games details months before I ever played it, and finishing it in one sitting on the day of James Brown's death = meh Foffy.

yeah, i tend to think that the idea behind the game is still in the back of Iga's mind, and it just got pushed out a little.  it might not take the form as originally intended.  but they could always start from scratch as the gaming climate changes, who knows.

Interestingly enough, when they asked Cox about IGA's PS3/X360 trailer, he also had no clue about it. I got the impression that it wasn't Japan's pitch. Besides, remember, IGA didn't want to show the footage, but Konami made him. The whole concept of the "pitch" seemed to be entirely a "behind close doors" deal, it would be ultra stupid for Konami to show it at a press conference. There would've been absolutely no point to it. It's like, "Okay, and here's a teaser trailer to a video game that might never get made! Roll clip!!". Either that PS3/X360 IGA CV was a totally different project, or Konami is one of the most stupidest VG companies ever(though, considering last E3 press conference, and their handling of Hudson property, this might be true).

I think what had happened was at the time... back in '07-'08, Konami was unsure of Castlevania's future & were experimenting with a lot of different projects (Akumajo Dracula Arcade, anyone?? How random was that?). IGA/Konami showed the trailer prematurely to gauge interest, but at the same time MS was hard at work prepping their pitch and America supposedly had a "unique" version as well. In the end MS won, which would explain IGA being relegated to downloadable titles (CVRebirth, HoD & to some respects Encore of the Night). Although the fate of Akumajo Dracula PS360 is officially classified as "unknown," it's safe to say that it will never see a release given the amount of time that has passed, Konami representatives and even IGA himself remaining silent about it, and lets not forget COX saying in MULTIPLE interviews Konami's want for drastic change in the series by bringing Hideo Kojima on board, changes the Alucardvania obviously didn't offer. Or else we'd be having entirely different discussions on the forum.

But like my man Reinhart77 says, who knows, the idea could still be in IGA's mind, in which case we'll be debating which will come out first, Alucardvania, 1999, or CVIII remake!  :P

I've been wondering the same thing. I feel like I badmouth Konami all the time on this board, and I hate doing that since they handle my favorite game series ever, but dammit, they make it really, really hard not to.  :-[

I wouldn't mind a 2D Julius adventure myself. It doesn't even have to be 1999.

Strange thing is, the Alucardvania teaser was shown AFTER "Lords of Shadows" was announced (before it was known as Castlevania). We all know that Konami was unsure about LoS at first, but they must've been pretty damn sure about the Alucardvania that they decided to show it months after LoS was announced. At this point they must've wanted LoS to be an entirely different IP, regardless of what Cox would have you believe.

And then suddenly, at E3 2009, LoS officially became Castlevania anyway, and the Alucardvania just.. disappeared from the face of the earth. UNLESS they decided to turn LoS into a Castlevania to give IGA a few more years to finish the Alucardvania (If so, it must be coming this year or else we can definitely forget about it)

Anyway, I think we'll see a 3DS Castlevania at E3.

Out of all the third party japanese companies out there, Konami fell off the hardest after the SNES/PSX era. Hell I'll even say Capcom is doing better than Konami these days despite there  "odd" choices as off late. Konami on the otherhand, feels lost ever since they released MGS4, It's like they don't even know what treasure they have in their vault of games. There still is a market for not only Castlevania but Suikoden, Gradius, Contra, Rocket Knight, Zone of Enders, hell I'll even throw in Rumble Roses.

However it seems like they rather focus on sucking the teets of Metal Gear, Yugioh and Pro Evoultion Soccer and will weed out anything that doesn't make "Metal Gear money" (R.I.P Hudson)  :'(

I though the same thing, it's really strange but bring hope for a possible  release of AlucardVania.

Zone of Enders

I actually met Hideo Kojima roughly two years ago, and asked him about this particular series (I also asked about Snatcher and Policenauts). He laughed and said fans are always asking him that question. He said there "might" be more games in those series but he won't be doing any of them cause he was tired of doing the "same old thing", or something like that.
