These aren't real statistics but it's to prove a point.
100,000 game projects are started every day.
60,000 of them gets people interested.
10,000 of those gets enough people but quits before a couple of months in.
1,000 of those gets to a point that it's almost considered a alpha.
70 of those gets close to a beta.
20 of those actually gets a game released.
and 18 of those 20 are made by game companies.
So yea, you can see my lack of optimism. I go onto LOTS of game development websites to look at what people are planning to do and stuff, because I'm interested and almost all of them die. There was one called GoonWorld that was extremely promising, everyone thought it'd take off with a full cast of people to work on it 3d art all ready and an engine that was deemed almost good enough, but I believe it's gone now.
