Emotional Responses Provoked by CV Games

Alright you hardass Castlevania gamers. We've all heard about your favorite this, that, and the other thing when it comes to the series. Favorite parts of your favorites games, favorite music, epic parts of whichever games. That's all crap. I wanna know when a Castlevania game actually invoked a emotional response.

AKA: I wanna know when you went from a badass hardcore gamer to a teary-eyed blubbering mess.

Though not known for an overly stellar or always coherent storyline, there have been plenty of times when something has happened to the protagonist, and you couldn't help but get choked up. Or maybe a really powerful piece of music from a certain game was so moving it made your lower lip quiver.

Personally, every single time I hear Dracula X Chronicles version of "March of the Holy Man", I start getting tears in my eyes from the epicness of the piece. Every. Goddamn. Time. Also, the ending of OoE was a tear-jerker too, and I'm woman enough to admit it.

So lets hear it. I know more guys that cried when Aeris died than anything else, so you can damn well admit to a time Castlevania got you a least a little weepy.

Hands down it was LoI when Leon has to kill his bride, although I don't think I actually cried. And I'm not saying that to sound macho either. To prove it I'll admit the throughout a lot of "Titanic" I was a blubbering mess. Especially the scene where the elderly couple decide to resign themselves to their fate and simply lay in bed in each others' arms. That one really got me.

I'll admit that Leon having to kill his wife moved me a little. Kind of sad and tragic. I think it evoked more of a cringe out of me than anything else, though. And not in an embarrassed way, either...more like a "shit, does he really have to kill his wife?!?" sort of way.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I have never cried when it comes to CV.  The closest I've ever come is the ending of OoE just after Shanoa uses Dominus to defeat Dracula and Albus is consumed instead of Shanoa dying and she regains her memories.  Other than that, I just had a screw you attitude when I finished LoS when I found out that Marie is gone for good despite what Gabriel went through.  Seriously, I felt bad for the guy.  You go through all that so that the person you loved most will come back from the dead only to find out that it was all a lie and now there is nothing left for you.  If I was Gabriel, I don't think that I would be consumed with despair and lose the will to live.  I think that I would do something like what Mathias did in LoI and essentially say "SCREW YOU GOD!!!" and become a being of darkness as a means of rebellion.

Behold my power and tremble

LoI was "that sucks!" I would have been in tears if the direction led to the audience getting to know Sara....
I've yet to play the game recently, so I'll give an update when I make the PS2 revisited go.

SoTN made me feel that Dracula wanted to redeem himself for the sake of Lisa, And Life then goes on...
Even playing all the ports at least five times, I still feel the same way and the Dracula Ark should have ended in Castlevania, PoR proved you can have a good cV story without dracula.

LoS was full of Holy shit, and Oh mai gah! scenes, but of course, it looked ungodly cool, but didn't provoke too much emotion since it was very action driven.

OoE did however bring me to tears, I understood Shanoa's goal and her situation, the idea of gaining your emotions back just to have the first feeling being Joy over accomplishing the defeat of Dracula and Sadness to lose the closest person to you, it is very bitter sweet. Tears of joy and Sadness.

I am sorta a tough guy but does stay intact with emotions, when I was a teenager I was all "men don't cry" and all that stuff...
now its different, and my photographic memory gets the best of me...
I can't listen to Aerith's theme from FF7, Any form of it makes me break down a bit.

It didn't help that during the OoE scene with Shanoa getting her memories back and Albus explaining what's happening before fading away, "Ricercare" was playing, and was so tragically pretty that it's like "Really, guys?! You had to jerk the heartstrings a bit more with sad music?! Goddamit!"

Then follow that up with "Requiem of a Night of Falling Stars" which sounded so somber until the big buildup halfway through didn't help. Until the build up. Then it was a bit empowering.

Seriously, the music of the series provokes more of a emotional response from me than anything else. If it's done right.

Most of the individual game ending credits were always passionately wistful and I think Super Castlevania IV is a perfect example that stands out.

Yeah, Castlevania 4 is great with its cinematic upon beating Dracula. The sun shines through, Dracula tries to turn into bats and escape, but they all get burnt up one by one. The last one makes the final desperate attempt, and slowly falls to the ground dead. The credits music starts, and clips start to play of epic moments in the game(pre-recorded though, not what you actually did). Still, There's a certain feeling I get with that scene that other games and movies just don't do for me.

i'm having a hard time remembering.  i think i was moved by Julia begging Hector to please kill her dear brother.  Might not of been the first time I played it though, might have been a replay after reading the manga and getting to know Isaac better.

Lament of Innocence - Leon having to kill his beloved, and when Rinaldo tells the story about the Succubus. Finding out Mathias's true identity.

Simon's Quest - If you get the bad ending.

SNES Rondo or PSP remake - Richter seeing Annette become evil and having to kill her. If you don't save Annette on the SNES and get the sad ending.

Aria of Sorrow - When Soma learns the secret about who he is.

Dawn of Sorrow - Julius mode....Soma was their friend and Julius and co are sad but know they must kill him.

Portrait of Ruin - When you learn about who Wind really is, his daughters, what happened to John. When you have to fight Dracula and Death teamed up and you are like "oh crap"

Order of Ecclessia - Shanoa and Albus's last words and seeing Shanoa cry and smile

LoS had a great load of emotion: Laura's scenes, the ending with the departure of Marie, Claudia's death and burial, etc.

The moment when Gabriel kills TFO and stands alone made me shiver with its music too.

Never cried because of CV games.

The closest moments to it were credits of the COTM, CV64 Richters's ending.
Mathias speech in LOI was very emotional and was one of the "stand out" moments in the series for me. On the other hand 2D games did nothing for me in that respect.

Super Castlevania 4 (SNES) Ending

Nothing else needs to be said. I've gotta stop watching that video before I turn into an emo wreck.

I never cried because of CV. The only time I remember saying WTF while playing CV  is when Succubus is disguised as Alucard's mother and is pushing him to kill humans.
Other than that I get all emotional when I listen to some songs from SOTN. Chaconne C Moll  is a very depressing song, and whenever I listen to it I start thinking about the vanity of life. Another great song is Abandonned Pit.When i listen to it I feel like i'm in a cave, surrounded by darkness and all kinds of creepy creatures that dwell there. It sends chills down my spine. For me  it's one of those songs that defines the atmosphere in Castlevania games .A spooky, mysterious atmosphere.
Not sure If I got this right, but then again CV doesn't have strong moments like MGS for example.
