Also, nice review Neo.

No problem now that you mentioned it I want to play it again  :) Also since you have a PS2 a game you should get would be a game called maximo just search it up it should cheap and well worth it. Also if you like action get onimusha 1-4.

Lords of shadow was very iffy to me. First time i played it I left off at chapter 3 and went on a hiatus for a time. Then hearing about the wonders of chapter 4 I picked it up again. But once i got to the Dracolich boss then that was it. To me it was not CV at all. The grapics were awesome and the amount of detail that wnet into the castle was also amazing, but almost everything else kinda left me high & dry. Personally I don't even know why they'd call it Castlevania when 'Lords of Shadow of the Colossus of War' (Los/SotC/GoW) is a more self-explanatory title of what this game is. I gave it a chance, but in the end it was not what I was looking for.

I just noticed that the 'old man' is 7 years younger than me.  I'm going to go jump off a bridge now.

He's 3 years younger than me, so I guess I'll come and watch what's in store for me in a couple years. :P

To me LoS was no still is alot of fun.
Ummm

I dunno if IGA is entirely gone. After LoS was announced CV Adventure Rebirth was released, and then there is HoDespair. Both the latter and Lords seemed to have done reasonably well.

Believing that CV is only good in 2D, I have to say that I hope the series aims for handheld titles only in the future.  I don't see them making new console CV's in 2D, but I definitely do see it for handheld.

Why don't they let someone else develop a CV game if they're too busy.  Capcom?  I've often wondered what they would do with metroid given the chance, now that I think about it they would probably dish out an awesome CV game.

Did they?  I didn't pay that much attention.  I'd just assume that LoS never happened.

Yeah. Got it a few years ago in the Game Crazy bargain bin. Never really played it much. I'm surprised since I'm a big Ghosts N Goblins fan.

I hate how everything has to be 3D now. Movies are 3D now. Old movies are 3D now (Beauty And The Beast is coming out in 3D! You know Disney's going downhill now). Mega Man went 3D, or 2.5D or 2.75D but still, it's the same idea. I kinda wish Konami would stick to hardware development. I know it's not a great business to get into and hard to sustain (R.I.P. SNK), but Konami has had some decent hardware over the decades. I mean, I kinda miss the good old days when we had all the big software companies also developing their own arcade machines or modding game consoles in order to make their own games bigger and better. Capcom, Konami, SNK, NEC, Hudson... Those were the good old days.... But I digress. My point is the formulae have gone stale. Capcom has the right ideas, if not the wrong execution. Case in point, Mega Man 9 and 10. Capcom heard the cries for an old-school Mega Man. Unfortunately, they misinterpreted it as NES-era, when SNES era would have been better. I'm not saying Rock should be SNES quality, but just keep the games 2D without the fancy backgrounds or rotating camera effects. Konami needs to follow Capcom's suit and not cater to the little kids who don't know what makes a good video game. Bring back their old crew and make a 2D Castlevania PLATFORMER for old time's sake.

Capcom got it right with Ultimate Ghosts'n'Goblins.

    • Is LoS fun, and does it feel like Castlevania (regardless of canon)?
    • A lot of people who cherish the CV timeline are pissed at a reboot. How do you know that the series will continue with this LoS timeline? Where was it stated that the old timeline will no longer be explored?

    1. If you enjoy action games, LoS is a blast. I loved it, but then, I love action games.

    2. I've been playing Cv from the beginning (I'm nearing 40), and I can honestly say that, as an oldschool fan that YES, LoS feels very much like a Castlevania game. The only reason I can see for not thinking so is if you have very narrow preconceptions of what a Cv game must be (in your own mind) to be a true Cv game. Personally, LoS felt more like a classic Cv game than the majority of the Cv games to come out over the past 10 years. IMO. ;D

    3. The old timeline has become a convoluted mess, thanks for IGA's amazing non-ability to craft a story. I'm glad they rebooted it.

Is it really IGA's fault that this series has been developed by a gazillion different people who were told pretty much every time that the story is about "a guy who whips candles and monsters and kills Dracula in a castle"? He tried to mold a straight continuity out of it by taking into consideration the past games instead of just pushing the reset button.

The only way for that to have worked would have been doing it like Hideo Kojima; retconning all the little pieces that didn't fit in.

I was playing a demo of the new Rayman game on PS3 at a friend's house. It's side-scrolling awesomeness. Really fun game.
