The game isn't perfect, but I admit I love that it's actually difficult.  'Course, in some ways it's too tough - My first time through, I sequence-broke and cleared the waterway before purifying it.  Why? The game was so difficult as it was that I didn't see anything strange with all the floors being poisoned.  It needed - needed attacks that were less awkward and slow. You couldn't properly hit and run in much of the game, especially when fighting certain armors.

Having just finished Magician Made and Fighter Mode, I have a new appreciation for how well balanced the str/def stats are with int and magic abilities.

If someone was to just make a hack that lets you turn on always running, or even just has always running without any walk, then the playability would increase tremendously. It would however dampen the difficulty a bit, but that is because it removes the frustrating movement quirk portion of the difficulty.

Yeah, I'm not sure why they even placed that early into the game. It just serves to make maneuvering Nathan more cumbersome because of how integrated running is, and how butt-slow Nathan is normally.

I guess besides that, I didn't really have issue with the physics. It mostly just the level design that made things a chore to move through a lot of the time: Abyss Stairway, Eternal Corridor (well it wasn't a chore but it was just plain boring), etc.

The running/walk thing was a by-product of making Nathan be like SotN Richter, even though in the context of the game it didn't make much sense. Actually, most of Nathan's sprites are based off that of Richter. I guess it's why in PoR's Richter mode, he's constantly running.

There's a dss combo that increases nathan's walk speed to that of running, and his run speed to that of WOOOOOOAAAHHH.  That can be used in lieu of having to press ->->, but I never really had any problem with that control mechanic.
As far as his walking speed being too slow - it doesn't really matter because you get the ability to run in the first 2 minutes of the game.
