The series' prime I think would have been Bloodlines or Dracula X, so around 1994-1995. Then the series finally lulled for over a year and when it came back into the limelight, it was a whole new game. You can talk about how well-received and beloved Symphony of the Night was, but when a series takes a complete turn like that, you know it has reached its prime. When Sonic went 3D, it had reached its prime (although he did go pseudo-3D on the Genesis already, but not entirely 3D). When Metroid Prime came out, Metroid had reached its.... ... Oh screw it.

I never thought Cv's situation was that bad. All the good franchises may have some shitty or unpopular game in their records, it's not a big deal. You just wait.

They should make another Metroidvania without Level Up system. That would make the franchise popular again.

I thought SA2 was considered Sonic's prime? Considering most of the criticism comes from every single game after it. SA2 is often and STILL IS praised as one of the best Sonic games.

For Metroid, I'd say the primes were it's prime. (lol)

Unlikely. It should be a big project (non-DL) for modern consoles, but Konami will not undertake such task. As any sane modern developer who want to make a good profit from the big game.
Of course they could make it in 2,5D, but there are two obtacles for it: it still would be a very big project and some fans will hate it on basis that "true Castlevania should in 2D graphics, screw Konami sellouts".

I don't recall hearing any fans being mad at Konami for what they did with Dracula X Chronicles which is a 2.5D castlevania.

The only major complaint I heard from it was the fact that it was on a HANDHELD game rather than a console game and thus the graphics where not as good as they could have been.

Other than that, I think fans would be just fine with a 2.5D game in general as long as its done right.

I thought people were really disappointed until it turned out that the oriignal Rondo was included.

Not that I can recall. It was always assumed the original Rondo would be included, by virtue of being a Chronicles game.

Which was disappointing in itself because the emulation turned out to be shit.

Because it was just a portable game, remake and one time event.
No one know how fans would reacted, if Konami made 2,5D Castlevania and said: "it's our new direction, we will not make any more 2D games for this series". Though, if LOS is anything to go by, I could imagine fans "overreaction".

Yes.  I want a Castlevania game where when you backtrack to get somewhere, the area is as hard as it was the first time you went through it.
