well when you're dealing with an extremely primitive and paranoid culture this is something not all unexpected. And yes this shit's getting real old, real fast. It's nothing more then 'blame it on so & so' stunt to call attention away from the REAL issues regarding the shootings and the lack of gun laws.

"Shooting renews argument over video-game violence"

How about renewing argument about f**king SECURITY MEASURES IN PUBLIC PLACES and gun control?
Did the Sandy Hook school even have any kind of security? The news told about how easily the murderer entered the school, was there even any resistance whatsoever?

Fuck the gun laws, it's about how the country handles mental disorders. Unless of course you mean the gun law should be, "Everyone hs the right to a gun unless they or anyone residing in the same household have been diagnosed with a severe mental disorder or known to act out violent tendancies." Mom shouldn't have had guns, doesn't mean there should be no guns allowed elsewhere. What gun law would you even have? The guy didn't go in with a shotgun, SMG, or rifle. He went in with two semi-auto pistols -- completely legal in most any country that allows citizens to own guns. Why the guy even brought a rifle with him is beyond anyone's knowledge and, since he didn't even bother to use it, essentially a moot point.

Heck, if more kids had guns, they could defend themselves better at school! *troll voice*

As for the whole "video game violence" thing, that obviously doesn't even pertain in the slightest to this case because the guy didn't go in trying to dodge fire. Nothing about the shooting even screams "modern shooter."

And yes there was resistance -- the janitor told him to put the gun down.

The way politicians have been trying to use this to push their own agendas is sickening. It's pathetic really. Our culture needs to stop being so reactionary and divisive.

Everyone in sensationalist media needs to watch this and hang their heads in shame:

If your agenda is gun control, this sure as hell supports it. Why are you so sarcastic? Politician's agenda is the agenda of those suppoting them.

By "resistance" I meant any security guards chasing him and trying to shoot him down. The reason I'm saying that is because in my country, every school (every public place actually) has security guards whose job is to prevent terrorists and maniacs like this guy from getting in. Israel has been a victim to countless horrible terror attacks, nevertheless we have far more strict gun-control than USA. This is balanced by applying strong security teams just about about anywhere. I don't know if there is such security in the USA. At least in the school it seemed like it didn't have any guards when it needed them.

Honestly I have to wonder why the mother didn't have a gun safe (or at least I haven't heard of her owning one) and to make an amendment to TheouAegis' suggestion, requirement for and use of a gun safe instead of outright denial of ownership.

I also feel homes with children should also have gun safes, but that's a different topic.

I like how the automatic knee jerk reaction with sensational liberal media was to:
A) Blame video games (Mass Effect was the first target)
B) Attack firearms
C) Obsess about and glorifying the killer as the next Satan

I could go on and on about it and create a lot of flame material, but I won't. It's a tragedy, it's horrible that it happened and as a nation need to look at the core issues instead of superficial knee jerk reactions to what we see on the surface. But, that requires work, and a nation of lazy, selfish and greedy individuals that want the "big bad" to be fixed in a night will probably ensure it will never get done. /pessimist

Also, TB pretty much nails it. Which reminds me of an old Bullsh!t episode...
I think this goes without saying but...

My mom looks like that lady nowadays. I was like "wtf is my mom doing on Penn & Teller's BS?" Srsly.

Around here, we only have security guards for high schools. Maybe a couple junior highs. When I was in middle school and junior high, we didn't need security guards -- you didn't fuck with the vice-principal! :o

This argument is so old.  Video games don't cause people to kill.  Troubled people who don't seek help kill people.  Everyone has their own issues.  The difference between the people who resort to violence and people who don't is that the people who resort to violence don't seek help before they act out.  Talk to a priest, counselor, or shrink.  Actually, violent video games can be therapeutic.  I have a lot of unexpressed rage and aggression.  How do I cope?  1) I see a shrink and 2) I play violent video games.  I can be as violent as I want in video games with out actually hurt anyone.  This allows me to let out some of my aggression and rage.  In other words, they act as a release.

Video games aren't evil.  And they don't make people violent.  People need to stop blaming others for their own actions and deal with life.  If you have a mental or emotional issues, seek help.
Behold my power and tremble

This tragedy in no way supports gun control. The gun the killer used wasn't his. If anything it supports gun security in private homes where in a mentally unstable person is residing. There was nothing in what I said that was attempting to show sarcasm so I don't get what you mean by that.
