I'd wager the CV fanbase over there is not as different as one might think. It may certainly be a matter of more popular over here than there, EG more in public consciousness, (Simon Belmont is pretty well known to most gamers, and most of them know the franchise through CV1 even if theyve never touched the games) but the fandom itself is likely the same. they talk about the same stuff, complain about the same stuff, only, in Japanese. And they have the slight benefit of having original source materials, whereas the west tends to instead get the bad localizations that many games suffered from the NES to the late SNES/early Playstation days. As well as whatever bonus materials such as books or interviews, etc. We instead have to rely on fan translations of those source materials (and original game text) that dont spread nearly as easily.
(Point in case look at the large amount of official Sourcebooks the Mega Man Franchise has, and compare that to the bad localizations some of the NES and SNES games got, and the complete lack of those same source materials over here, leading to confusions and mysteries that persist to this day whereas the Japanese side of the fanbase doesnt have nearly the same issue)
