Need opinions on the Parasite Eve 1 & 2

Since The 3rd Birthday looks like my kind of game, I decided I'd play the first two entries in the series before picking it up. So I have to ask before I jump in, how are the first two Parasite Eve games? It's widely regarded among the fanbase that T3B is the worst of the three for whatever reason, but I'm looking for some opinions from all of you if possible.

The first game is phenomenal! I never really played 2 but I hear it's even better. The 3rd looks...... bad. I hear it disregards story stuff and gameplay is meh.

First game combat is like Vagrant Story, so if you like Vagrant Story's combat, you'd like it.

I cannot tell you much about the first except that my friend has it and it's somewhat hard IIRC. I only borrowed the game from him for about a day or two so I know that the first plays well and I have the third as well do not know why it get's so much hate.

Also since I cannot explain it very well I will leave this.

Well, like they mentioned above, the first is like vagrant story in combat style and i would dare to say that it has almost the same difficulty, but i like best the second one. Nice action combat style, better graphics and a very interesting scenario to keep you going on. I have never tried the third one, but from what i have seen from videos, it has nothing to do with the two previous and it's not so much to my liking.

Love the first game, fun gameplay mechanics and an interesting story. And OMG that Intro music just gets me PUMPED.

Parasite Eve OST - Primal Eyes ~ Opening Theme

I was kind of disappointed by the second title's switch from this action RPG mash-up to a more traditional survival horror style of gameplay, but the graphics are much improved and I hear people enjoy it well enough. So if anything, I highly recommend the first game. A must play for any PS1 RPG connoisseur. ^_~

Hmm...I also recommend (loosely) watching the original Parasite Eve film the games were based off of (loosely). The games act as a sort of weird sequel to the movie (which is based off the original novel). It's different, but still kind of enjoyable.

The Eve in the movie is pretty close to the Eve in the games, minus the funky arms, I think. I actually liked the movie, even if it was a tad slow and overdramatic at times. It's no Ring or Ju-On, but still a nice JHorror.

I never got past the spider stage in the original. That game creeped me out. I don't like survival horrors, but I played quite a bit of PE1. I still go back to it once in a while on my emulator. That dmaned dog boss took me so many tries. Such a small area to fight with her (i think it was a girl dog) fucking AOE shit.

Yeah, I enjoy the PE movie, but I also understand it isn't for everyone, especially if they just want so see waifu Aya being awesome (which I did, but I still enjoyed the movie).

I only ever got to the Centipede boss thing on the second disc. I was playing in Japanese, so a lot of finer points were lost to me while playing through. One of those points was the whole weapon upgrading thing. I never knew about it so I just played through the game by dumping worse stat weapons for better stat weapons like a traditional RPG. I told that to my friends who had beaten the US version since I was having a hard time with the boss and they were like, "How da fuq did you get that far without upgrading ANY weapons?!"

So, if you're planning on playing PE, remember; upgrade your weapons, don't toss that stuff out like me!  ;D

Also Aya Brea has seriously been one of my earliest VG crushes, other girls just never did it for me before Aya came into my life.  :-[

I have finished the first and then i decided to take the extra challenge on that tower on the new game+, only to get stuck, because of the lack on ammunition, so i gave up and never tried to play it again.

I can't say I've ever played Vagrant Story, despite the fact that it's on my hard drive. Never have gotten around to it. I've heard mixed opinions about that game, from people saying it is the greatest RPG on the PSone, but also one of the worst.

The first PE kinda turned me off from the lack of voice acting, because it might be harder to get into the game, but it's nothing I can't get over. I watched the beginning, and the battles look pretty fun. PE2 looks like a typical PSone third-person shooter, so it might be fun. T3B definitely looks like my kinda game. A neat action shooter with a pretty interesting plot, cool music, and a great protagonist.

And yeah, Aya Brea is a babe. Definitely one of the most attractive female characters in video game history.

Dude.... me too. She's so hot, and her personality is just..... so wonderful. A well designed character. As of the first PE anyway.
