I wouldn't completely merge the games. My recurring posts about an SQ remake often included the final part of CV as the prologue. Kind of like DX/SotN. The game's backstory files could include references to things that might have happened and Serena/Selena. She would actually have a role in the games. Dracula would have tried killing or vampirizing her, but Simon would have prevented that and got her to safety.

This probably wouldn't make any sense, but I got this idea in my mind where the original Castlevania and Castlevania Chronicles are combined into one game and given a graphical update in the same vain as the Dracula X Chronicles. Both games have basically the same first and last stage, so maybe they could implement a branching path system in the game where one path leads to the stages of the original Castlevania and the other to the stages of Chronicles. They could also add a completely new path for the sake of some original content. Other stuff they could do is add stuff to collect like in Rondo, give Dracula a third form, and add little cut scenes where appropriate. Maybe it's a terrible idea but I think it has potential.

I had an idea similar a while back. Mine was a basic merger of all CV1-type games(CV1, Haunted Castle, Chronicles, SCV4) and try to make a definitive "Simon Belmont" Castlevania game that has parts from all the games. Also, pump up the stage count to near CV3 numbers. 21 Stages(including alternate stages you discover by finding different paths, the 21st stage being the Castle Keep, the short walk through the entrance quarters, up the iconic staircase to Dracula's lair), 21 different boss battles(some compose of multiple enemies, like the twin mummies, Frankenstein & Igor and Slogra and Gaibon, or multiple forms, like Dracula).

My idea was that it would start in town(cutscene of the Spring celebration hinted at in the manual), then Dracula's resurrected and sends his hoards to kill the townspeople. First stage, Simon enters as people flee past him and jumps into the fray. Second stage would be the Abandoned Abbey where they resurrected Dracula(in the Chronicles cutscene). Then, you venture via SCV4 route on your way to Castlevania(the actual castle entrance halls being, perhaps, the 5th stage) and the games start to merge closer.

I think Nagumo's idea is fantastic, and they can also merge SCV4 into that, with various paths and ways to choose, leading us to the stages of each game, graphically updated and all within the same look.
They can also add a % counter, so we have to complete all levels, and some unlockables we have to find, and a couple of new levels with new soundtrack.
All that, would be awesome!

That sounds pretty much like my CV1 remake but without the 8-bit graphics:

The difference in mine is that I actually remixed all the similar stages into something familiar, but new. The only thing I haven't done is planned out the cut scenes or designed the secret stages. The rest is already in my design document and partially executed using demos of TheouAegis' CV3 engine.
