N.A.... North America?

OH SHIT SON

...Seriously, I'm kinda bummed they didn't work on that one more. I wanted to see the awful, awful things they were thinking of doing to the plot. And the mechanics sounded interesting too.
I KNEW someone would go there! XD

Honestly, i don't think the plot would have been far too drastically different from the Original X series. they seemed to be content with carrying things over more or less intact and only building upon what existed, slightly adapting it to their new world.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

I didn't make it much farther after meeting those things for the first time.

Lol, those things scared me so much when I was little.  I have terrible eyesight and I didn't have glasses when OoT came out, so they looked pretty much real to me. Once I got glasses and figured out all the ways you can kill them, I was good, but still... gave me nightmares.  :'(

... Why do so many people act like just because it has a more realistic art style (and the art style itself is not very realistic anyway but whatever) that it was some sort of snub to the rest of the series?  Tons of wonky Zelda-esque characters and things were in TP, and the story was just as cheesy and melodramatic as WW.  Or are you going to try and argue that the yetis were even remotely in place in a 'dark fantasy'? Pft.

OoT was dark.  MM was dark. Heck, WW is darker than TP when you take ten seconds to actually think about it. So it comes down to art style, and imo?  OoT/MM (mostly MM) are STILL "darker" than TP in that respect.

The only dark Zelda story wise is mm but even then certain things... major is a moonwalker(majora was odd in general), that theif guy,  :P . OOT is not dark at all in my opinion except for the shadow temple.  And it's odd I really cannot remember TP story all that much(it's vague) but wind waker did have some lasting impression on me maybe because it was the first 3d Zelda I beat. But yeah giant flood,, stabing Ganon in the head that did happen right I'm not crazy right? As for wonky characters I cannot deny that, you had those two guys in the lake right with the chickens, and the baby who knows how to do business, but every Zelda has had some type of crazy/loony character like you said besides the first and second.

Did I rub you off in a bad way or something? You did snowboard with them but if you do it right you can fit anything in a  certain setting  :P

I know there are some people who'd like a "hardcore" take on the Zelda franchise

but I'd like to see such people die in a fire.

As for the "legitimacy" of Twilight Princess' darkness or whatever...it had more atmosphere than all the previous games and any since except for maybe Majora's Mask, but it had a very unique ambience that just hasn't been replicated, and I think that's what people mean about TP being dark. Just walking through the outerworld at night, I always had this kind of weird, dreamlike feeling, and I wish another game would go back to that.

No, I just find it increasingly ridiculous when people say TP is dark or trying to be dark or whatever.  I don't see it as trying to be dark any more than any of the other 3d Zeldas.

I've talked about this elsewhere, but to me TP's themes revolved greatly around darkness and light, and the art style reflects that.  Everything in Hyrule seems ethereal, glowy; people complain about the bloom in that game but I'd argue that it makes sense in the context of the themes of the game, and to compensate for the glowy-ness which washed out the color, they had to incorporate detail work (so they couldn't make it cel-shaded like WW).  There's a very sharp contrast between the world of light and the world of Twilight visually; in concept art and some early screenshots it's even more obvious what they were going for.  I don't know that they executed it as well as they could have, but the first time I was riding around at night in TP I noticed that Epona's mane was glowing and it made sense to me because she is a being of the world of light. Whether someone likes that style and presentation or not is another matter entirely.
TP is far from my favorite Zelda game but I don't think its presentation/atmosphere was a weakness.

Guess I'd never heard of people complaining about the bloom. I freaging luuuurrrrrve it. Little graphical touches like that really helped to bring me into the world of that game, as did the more ambient music.

Give me bloom and give me colors, heh. Shadows of the Damned was one of the nicest looking games to have come out recently, IMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

You know how WW is being given an HD face-lift?  I've seen people practically throwing tantrums over the fact that there is bloom in them; you'd think that the people working on the remake had raided a hospital and eaten all the babies or something.

Just speaking my mind. Get used to it kid. I think it's pretty clear that MOF attempted to put some SOTN into the LOS mix. It's fairly unanimous that MOF was off beat. I think it's fair to say that Mercury Steam was trying to play to another developer's strength in that game and not their own. I think that's why the game fell flat.

No need to be rude Maedhros. Sorry, I wasn't aware that I had to agree with you in order to make posts on this forum.
The way you talk about SOTN and metroidvanias makes me think you have an agenda against these titles and it's fans.

MoF has the same problem from LoS series, it don't have anything from SOTN, besides a map. It's not even a metroidvania game, exploration is linear and gives 0 real rewards.

Bloom is A-OK by me where that is concerned. I just hope Nintendo sticks with the toony cel-shaded look of the original. The screens I've seen lack that really cool shadowing... Massa Jorge thinks it's due to a weather effect and that the game won't always look that way, and I hope so. Please give me HD cel-shadedness, Nintorndough...

I've been sayin all along that I love SOTN and DOS. Hell I even enjoyed LOI. I just feel that too many of these games were made and that the formula got very stale. I think IGA had way too much control over the series for way too long. Never said that I hated all of his games.

I doubt that Nintendo would let a western company that they don't own work on a Zelda game.

It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

It's too colorful. Needs more browns and grays.

Link also needs more armor, not that sissy tunic stuff.

Also, Zelda needs massive tits.
