Well that's nothing new. They said themselves at E3 that they would leave DRM up to the publishers, but that they themselves would have no specific DRM on the CONSOLE. In other words, NO mandatory connectivity, NO mandatory game install and disc obsolescence, and none of that fun stuff related to used games and game sharing.

The PUBLISHER, (EG: Capcom, Konami, etc) can put it on the GAME if they want, but the SYSTEM, the console, will not have any of those features by default.

However, last minute or not, they at least listened. They realized that Microsoft was shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly, and that if THEY listened, and did the opposite, they would win many Xbox fans over, and essentially win E3

Translation (by me):

According to sources consulted by EDGE and participating companies developing games, both Xbox One as well as Playstation 4 will end up having measures to control the second-hand trading of games (used games) with this new generation.

Sources indicate that what happened in Sony's Conference "is nothing but a public relations game" to satisfy users during 2013's E3 conference in Los Angeles this week.

Later on, after Sony had assured that third parties will be free to apply anti-secondhand (anti-used game trading) special measures if they so wish.  Microsoft's Xbox One will also maintain this level of politics, though it will also force the console to connect every 24 hours.

These same informants assure that Sony's decision not to have measures with anti-second hand protection in the console was made at the final hour.  In the following video, the Playstation 4 (development?) house explains how to lend games in their console.

The best way to understand how the PS4 works:

It's exactly as it is with PS3 right now. Publishers can make "offline" singleplayer games that requires online connection. But that's not Sony's problem at all. And we can CHOOSE to support that or not. They are giving us the CHOICE. And that's very important. :)

Every time I think Microsoft can't get any lower, they go get themselves a new shovel and start digging.

Wow, if that's really true then that's extremely pathetic. I laughed at first, but now I don't know how to react.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.
^^
You are now reading this in Robert Belgrade's voice.

Then Lords of Shadow 2 just takes a big, semi-solid, smelly, pea-green dump all over everything.
