Belmonts themselves aren't even supposed to be regular human beings, though. I've always thought they were a bit super-human. I still don't agree with them taking fall damage. It just doesn't belong in a Castlevania game. You want to put bottomless pits in? Fine, but NOT fall damage. Leave that for FPS games.
Personally, the TRUE reason I don't want it in(supernatural or human alike) is because I want less things to worry about. I don't want to be judging distance and drops, wondering if it's safe enough to jump down, or if I have to backtrack to find another way. It's just more crap to worry about. It's like in those RPGs where you have to contend with a hunger meter, and every step you take, you get more hungry, and once your meter reaches zero, you die of hunger. It's sooooo much easier to just rid RPGs of that feature. One less thing to worry about. If you are going to make your players worry, have them worry about stuff that matters, not dying of hunger or splitting their shins after falling a couple stories down. These are video games, not reality. What's next, they gonna implement something like the Sims, where you have to constantly take a time out and let your characters take shits to relieve themselves, or else you suffer a buttclog and die of waste poisoning?
