The real meat and potatoes of this is sixteen new courses. I can get behind that for the special preorder price.

If they ever decide to fix battle mode, that had better be free DLC since it shouldn't have sucked so bad in the first place.

I downloaded the update (that also includes the Mercedes cars) and noticed something...

...it sure is nice of them to have already put placeholder "cards" in the character selection screen and level select screen (I just realized I forgot to scroll through the cars), that way you can see the content you could have but (maybe) haven't bought yet...dangling in front of you like a carrot...or a chocolate cake...teasing you and begging you to buy the DLC! ;-P

I could not agree more...I pretty much hate battle mode on this.  I like that there are 12 racers and not just 4 (the last battle mode I played was on the 64...I don't even know if the other games since then have it!), but playing on regular tracks as opposed to in arenas?  Not a good choice.  I don't know about anyone else, but I spend most of the time just trying to find someone to hit!  I look down at the map to see dirtbag-so-and-so is ahead/behind, then look back up to maneuver up/back to them, don't see them, and look back at the map to see they turned around!  "YOU JERK!!" 
I want arenas back!

Not having arenas was a huge misstep. Even just compiling the stages from previous Mario Karts would have been enough.

Yep!  And I really liked the Skyscraper too!  I liked playing a heavy character and trying to knock or lure people over the edge!

The Mario Kart series has traditionally included only characters from actual Mario games, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to broaden that spectrum to having Nintendo characters in general.
